  • Don't do it just yet. The exchange rate today was 1.31. Stick hold and see what develops.

  • Hi

We arrived in LG on 19 December and the rate was 1.36.  By Monday 7 Jan the rate had dropped to 1.29 - but on the day we left had risen to 1.31.

Hopefully it is rising again now everyone has spent all their Xmas cash.

    Have a great holiday

  • Its 1.28 in Marks and Spencers today and I think they give the best rate in general over here . It is therefore probably best to change most of your money when you get to Gigantes.

The nice man by the sports centre usually has the best deals.

  • Travel Money Exchange Rate hits 1.25 at the Post Office.

The Post Office must be the worst place on the High Street to exchange money prior to travel.

  • Apologises to the Post Office (to those still open...)

    Tourist Exchange Rate:

    1.22 M & S

    1.23 Post Office

In real terms over the last 12 months - what would have cost you 69 pence (1 euro) would now cost 82 pence (1 euro)

If the pound loses any more value, they could change the name to the euro at little cost.

  • I would complain.

In five years (since 2002) paying 40 percent more in Euros, in LG for everything with this parity (1? = ?1)

This only applies to those who need to exchange pound/euro.

  • The Euro Exchange is holding at 1.22? to the pound  (Travel Rate).

I would imagine there are many in LG and surrounding areas who depend
on a UK pension plus and being taxed at source.

The extra ?5 a week that the Labour Government is taking from this must be good news, I don?t think.

  • The Pound has hit rock bottom against the Euro today (again) for the Visitor or UK Pension.

    At 1.20? (M&S) (Thomas Cook)

Last year for ?500 you would have got 725? now 600?

    125? is a large drop!

  • Indications on the financial news last night is that the strong Euro will continue to grow stronger over the next couple of weeks and the rate could fall to as low as 1.10 to the pound  :'(   Not a good rate to attract tourists. Travel Companies and Airlines will have to drop their rates to remain competitive.
