I notice that there is a 2 weeks time share for sale on e bay (.co.uk) reference 280282728714 for 99 pence  starting price with NO RESERVE !! - and no offers to date.

When you have a lifetime commit to a timeshare and have to pay the management fees annually  you seem to be locked into these fees unless you can offload the liability.  Plus the loss of the initial purchase price. Not a good position to be in me thinks !  :'(  :'(  :'(

  • at 99p would recomend buying as at least the accom is better than most all hotels in LOSGIG

even 2 weeks maintenence fees + flights for 2 would be less than most of the holidays offered and if your a regular to LOSGIG then not bad really

  • Still you try and get a deal like that you can exchange into the SHERETON VISTANA RESORT IN ORLANDO by your local travel agent sure it would be about ?4 to 5 K Was there and believe me it is nice.
Sadly all holidays whether you like it or not are timeshared????just some of you like to pay out to Thompson profit margins. THEN THERE ARE LOADS OF BONUS WEEKS availiable world wide from about ?150 + fLIGHTS BUT THEN YOU ALL SEEM TO ENJOY EASYJET WHILE YOU CAN.If you do buy them most grateful will send my address for ownership certs.

  • I don't intend to get drawn in to the timeshare argument! but I will say we have owned TS for 14 years and they suit us.

We visit LG four weeks of the year every year paying approx. ?500 fees.  I think you will agree that for 4 weeks for 2 of us, it is money well spent.  I don't think we could get a package for that little (even adding on the flights).  I know we have paid the initial amount but we have had our money back over the years.

I think the 99p is a bargain as the accommodation is very good and it is in a good position.  The ?700 fees quoted seem a bit steep to me but as I say if you add it all up, and if four people were using the unit, then I still think it is money well spent.

I do realise it is not everyone's cup of tea but lets not forget those of us that do own timeshare and visit LG frequently.

  • There is the loss of the original purchase price - for 2 weeks in mid summer how much would that of been ??  - ?3k - ?4k maybe ??, possibly more.  So not a good investment when you consider the sales blurb which usually states it's an investment that you can happily pass to your children on your death.  Now I wouldn't want to lumber my kids with a liability like that - even at a 99p purchase price.

  • Oh how lovely it is to arrive onto this site and again be drowned by such great local positivity......I'm sure people reading this are really encouraged to come to Los Gigs, I'm not sure where you've been LosGiganteskid but this village needs all the help it can get, so why not write to your local M.P rather than a potentially tourist site?

  • The LG Area is like marmite.

Its never going to be all singing - all dancing and anyone who visits
    should be prepared for that.

  • It is correct what they say the maintenance fees at El Marques Palace is very steep and because it's not a community they can add as much as they like each year to maintenance and there is nothing you can do about it, if you don't pay the maintenance then it can be taken away from you whereas at El Marques they can't do that and the maintenance is around a couple of hundred euros cheaper. The palaces are beautiful timeshares but has the atmosphere of a wet fish.

  • The ebay auction to which this thread refers has ended with no bids being received whatsoever ie not sold.  Even at no reserve and a 2 weeks timeshare purchase price of just 99pence  seems no one is interested in being liable for the ongoing maintenance fees currently ?750 pa

It would concern me if I owned a timeshare and couldn't get rid of the liability.  I can see the time (if it hasn't arrived already) where historically the time shares were purchased at list price or thereabouts, to the current time where the weeks are being offered for free and soon the pendulum will swing the other way whereby as an owner you will have to offer money and the timeshare to part company !!

Well, cheekygirl, like it or not I am merely highlighting the fact that timeshare ownership when it comes time to part company for whatever reason may not be as easy as one was led to believe when one originally signed - This is nothing unique to Los Gigantes, there are dozens of timeshares for sale on e bay at a purchase price of zilch.

Prey tell me - why on earth would I want to write to my local Member of Parliament ?? - do you know something I don't ? - does he want to buy it ??  ;D

  • So you never bought them for me DAMN

WORKED IT OUT THAT 4 Persons +cheap flights still was alot cheaper than two weeks in "ITS CLEAN BUT CRAP APARTMENT" 3* as many of the owners of that resort would agree and at the end of the day as before all holidays are timeshare MUPPET!!!!!!

  • Well Sebastian, it was there if you had taken the plunge with the 99p asking price !!
I know that you were waiting for LGK to buy it for you to add to your global portfolio but you've missed this one now.
Yes, timeshare can make for a very enjoyable holiday as we found at Las Rosas from the late 1980's until a few years back when we moved on to another property nearby. It has to be agreed though that the maintenance charges have risen year on year to levels where you have to stop and examine the costs on top of flight costs and other miscellaneous holiday expenses - food and alcohol !
It would seem that trying to offload one's timeshare for any bid must be a bit of a last resort and as the legal costs would presumably fall to the purchaser that would bump up the price considerably from 99p.

Surprised to see you on the site at the moment as I thought you'd be summoned to the global financial summit ???

Having thought about it long and hard - I came to the conclusion that at 99 pence it was far too expensive !!
