  • Thats amazingly cheap!

I am trying to cost up a trip for 5 of us in July 2008 from Birmingham; all of us flying out the same day but 3 only staying for a week and my girlfriend and I for 2 and the cheapest I have found so far is

Return flights for 1 week flying out 18th July - 'a3690.63 (3 People)
Return flights for 2 weeks flying out 18th July - 'a3550.42 (2 people)

Grand total of 'a31,241.05! Thats just for flights!!!!

If I wasn't half Spanish and the whole of one side of my family where there, I would unfortunately go elsewhere for the kind of money I have to pay from Birmingham.

  • Hey Janey, thanks for your reply.

I'm pretty sure I have tried them, I am usually fairly hot on trying to get the best deals but will check them again before booking just in case I have missed something.

Our problem is pickiness - we hate the thought I having to travel back from say Manchester when we return so prefer to fly from Birmingham - although East Midlands may be an option providing its cheap enough.

Another problem is that we loved stopping at El Marques Palace so we are now trying to find an apartment which caters for 5 or hoping that our contact can find a 3 bed to go with the 2 bed we stopped in this Summer!

If anyone knows of people with apartments for rent next July please let me know. Many thanks

  • Hi Janey,

As its the first time we will be going with my Girlfriends family we want to stick with what we have tried, also as the furthest her mother has been is Ireland  we need to get over the fear of flying and heat worries which we are facing with the aim of ensuring they enjoy it and would want to return - fingers crossed!

Speaking about the balcon de los gigantes the reason we have stayed away from them is that if they are fully occupied we imagine the pool areas to be extrmemly busy despite there being two pools!

How many apartments are there? I really can't see them selling all of them - can anyone else?

  • I think itquote s about time that people such as Janey and Quondam stopped making scurrilous and libellous remarks about the city of my birth and its people.

Ryanair has chosen to fly from Liverpool because it is a prestigious regional airport.

I suspect these ridiculous remarks are motivated by jealousy over the availability of low cost flights.

  • Well Janey, it looks like those Ryanair cheap November/December  flights they were selling last week have now gone.

A typical return is now about 'a370 but on top of this you have to pay 'a310 for each bag checked in and they have now introduced a 'a34 checking in fee. So it works out at about 'a385 return. Still quite attractive.

Optional travel insurance is 'a39 and there is an optional priority boarding fee of 'a34 if you want to avoid the scramble for seats.

Subject to the availability of spare wheels, they run flight on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  • It would be very nice indeed to be able to pick up 'cheap' flights for the family but even those Ryanair flights were probably carefully timed to be unavailable during the actual school holidays.
In a way I don't blame them because it is 'market forces' but I can't believe it costs 'a3300 to 'a3500 for the same seats on the same journeys just a few days later.
Also give me an 'all-inclusive' price any time rather than a low headline price with all the taxes and sneaky extras added on later ! Some airlines asking you to pay extra to guarantee 'seats together' as well as meals and checked in luggage.
Methinks they taketh the mickey  >:(

  • The earlier you book the cheaper they are, which is why you need to subscribe to all the airlines newsletters so that you are aware as soon as they go on sale.

The less seats they have left - the more expensive they are

I booked flights for my mother in law for 4 weeks Dec/Jan with Thomsonfly as soon as they went on sale for about 'a370.00.  The same flights now cost 'a3212.00

    Have a great holiday

  • Message for Jo Leon - the pool areas arounf Balcon are never heaving as not all of the apartments are offered for private rental, which actually makes it quite nice as it's never over crowded. In reply to how many apts, there are 288 and as of last week I think about 60 remain unsold, which is very good for a complex of this size and age. Most new builds can take 4-5 years to sell all properties.
