  • I am coming to Los gigantes for 3 weeks over christmas, and want to hire a car from the airport, what would be the cheapest or best hire firm to use?

  • Please refer to many previous postings on this subject.

Please try not to start a new topic on subjects that have been well covered previously, it indicates laziness not so to do.

  • Dear Monkey45cat

Try www.autoreisen.es  I have a Ford Focus for 3 weeks from 19th December for 'a3264 and they start as little as 'a3201 for a C2

As for poolepirates comments - which are negative and absolutely no use to man or beast- don't bother replying if you don't want to be included in a new thread - some of us don't have the time to trawl through previous topics to find the actual information we need!!!

I can't really argue with that because I happen to know the search facility on the message board is next to useless.  However simply typing "car hire tenerife" into Google will get you a list of at least 5 Tenerife hire companies on the first page!  One can then seek the opinion of message board users as to cars/service offered by each of them.

Strictly speaking one is not allowed to display links to sites in replies so your reply may be moderated also...having said that I've personal experience of autoreisen, they are good and cheap but don't expect their cars to be low mileage and in superb condition!

  • USED AUTOREISEN ONCE. OLDISH CAR, ALTHOUGH PRICE NOT BAD, BUT WINDOW DID NOT GO DOWN AND COUPLE OF OTHER SMALL PROBLEMS. WE GOT A PUNCTURE AND WHEEL WAS TOO TIGHT AND THEY COULD NOT GET TO US TILL NEXT DAY, WHICH WAS DISAPPOINTING. I NOW USE LOCAL COMPANY, WHO HAVE 24 HOUR CALL OUT AND DO AIRPORT PICK UPS AND DROP OFFS.

  • I usually order one through email-car-hire and pick it up at the airport. To find them, just do a  Google search.

You place your order on their website. You pay by credit card when you pick the car up, so you donquote t have to worry about giving them your credit card details over the internet.

They charge about 'a384 for 7 days hire of a ldblquote basic modeldblquote .

Although you book with email-car-hire, they are really agents for Record and if you book a basic model you will actually get (in all probability) a more superior Record car with radio, air conditioning and central locking for the price of a basic model.

You also get Record terms and conditions. They clearly show on the website what is and what is not covered.  If you want cover for damaged tyres and windscreen you will pay a little more.

    Their cars are nearly new.

  • Adding to Falstaff's observations, I booked a Ford Ka for 12 weeks via the e-mail company he mentions and got an upgrade to a Picasso and a 10 pc discount making it approx 'a310 a day.  The extra insurance covers tyres, windows, lost keys and wrong fuel but there is a premium ceiling of approx 42 euros on this, so I took this.  I picked up the Picasso on arrival last week.  Next day I discovered there was no spare wheel.  I called them and took the car back next day.  They gave me a nearly new Renault Scenic and 1/2 tank of fuel along with a sincere apology.  They are certainly a good choice for long term rent but it's worth checking the vehicle thouroughly before leaving the airport, particularly the wheels.  I have previously had cars from them with defective wheels - one badly buckled and one with a humungous blister on the tyre side wall and (this time) no spare.
