  • Noticed recently that Spanish banking group Bankia have had to be bailed out by the Spanish Government - it's of little comfort to know that under the Bankia umbrella is Caja banking of which Caja Canarias has some 400,000 account holders in the Canary Islands - could someone pop down the village to see if there is a queue of customers withdrawing their euros. :-\\

  • I thought that Caja Canarias was part of the Banca Civica group and due to be taken over in time by Caixa Bank? There will probably still be queues at the cashpoint though! We'll see how things pan out with Greece over the next few days and find out if the euro is doomed????

I must look out my old peseta coins...

  • A quick research seems to show that it is La Caja de Canarias which is tied to Bankia and that is not the same as 'Caja Canarias'.
    Remarkably similar name though!
Hopefully the queues won't be too long and there will be enough money left in the bank for me to pay my tax bills??? :-(
