Beware!!!!!

  • People flying over this festive period Beware of thieves at the airport. My Husband has just flown back to the UK yesterday and on arriving home found his suitcase had been opened and a nintendo ds had disappeared and other gifts had been opened along with his toilet bag being looked into. On telling friends it seems this isn't the first incident of things going missing out of suitcases. Not knowing exactly where to point the finger for thieves it looks as though it is more likely to be at this end. Many of you residents are travelling home for Christmas along with your family gifts, so do try to carry them all with you and not in the suitcase. The thieves seem to be selective in what they take as they weren't interested in the aftershave they unwrapped, took the paper though. Of course we are reporting it to the appropriate quarters but don't hold out much hope of getting anything back. Unfortunately my daughter paid cash for the ds machine for her father's present so she can't claim as she would have been able to on her visa. Oh they left the empty box just took the actual machine and charger so they evidently didn't want to be loaded down with rubbish. One sour note to the end of a good holiday.

  • This end, not GATWICK is it?
It obviously would be useful to know this.

  • There was a spate of this at Luton Airport about 2 years ago.  It had happened to me when travelling from Luton to here, I actually had a digital camera stolen which was hidden in a shoe right at the bottom of the case which led me to believe it was at Luton when the bag was scanned.  I did quite a lot of 'investigating' at the time with the airline, the handling firm at Luton and the police, apparently there was a 'cartel' of thieves working in amongst the baggage handlers at Luton but the police just couldn't catch them at it.  Incredible when you think how tight security is for us humble passengers!  The other annoying thing was that my holiday insurance wouldn't pay out because, get this, the bag wasn't in my possession at the time!

  • Anything of value in a suitcase is 'worthless' in air insurance terms.

It is just so much a kilo if it is lost or stolen. About ?18 a kilo.

Stealing fom Luggage is fairly common. Good old UK Airports.

Yes it is  surprising when there is much bleating about Airport Security,
something you pay at least ?10 a time for at UK Airports.

  • I think it must have been at Tenerife end. I have spoken to a few people and they all have their own stories of theft from suitcases. Evidently there was a big crack down on it a short while ago and staff were changed at the airport. Unfortunately I never saw this report otherwise I would have suggested carry said items in the hand luggage. The flight was to Doncaster so it isn't just the London airports with the problem. Ironically the flight was 40mins late taking off but this was due to a poor woman being taken ill before leaving not to give the thieves time to rifle the bags. Just thought I would make people going back to their families for Christmas aware of the problem although it isn't a new one I think we need to be jogged back into safety measures occasionally.

  • There has been a reported problem at Tenerife Airport South concerning theft and lack of security. It appears the clamp down
on this was part of the reason for the threatened strike in December.

I doubt it could ever beat the scale of theft in some UK Airports of previous years.

Perhaps all those warnings of taking care of your luggage at UK Airports should end with, ?because we won?t?
