  • Has anyone tried the shuttle services from the Airport, are they reliable ?..or is it better to get a taxi ?
Its our first time to Tenerife, and the first time for many years that we haven't taken a package deal.

  • Hello leo_london,
This subject has cropped up before and opinions are as divided on this as most other things on here !!!
Try a 'search' using the button above on airport transfers or taxi transfers or refer to Dolly's Guide to Site Searches.
My own particular preference is for a well known, fairly local transfers company who are competitive on prices and in my opinion pretty reliable.
You will almost certainly find some of the same acts providing the entertainment as you enjoyed last time around.
    Welcome back.

  • Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
I should probably have searched the threads but I'm new to this kind of forum.
Anyway, it was worthwhile posting..I have had an offer by pm that sounds reasonable.  :)

I will no doubt be posting again to pick your brains about Los Gigantes and its attractions.

  • leo,

You haven't changed your name from billi 161 have you ???

If you consider that suggested hire car from the airport you can take yourself off to Santa Cruz for the footie.

Must fly- my plane is waiting for me...

No, any resemblance to anyone past or present in these threads is purely coincidental.  :o
I dont really fancy hiring a car. It is probably practical and more sensible but driving around on holiday does not appeal..I do enough of that here in the UK.
Besides, I like a drink and would not want to fall foul of the law over there. We only have a couple of weeks away each year and want to relax, so I dont mind the extra expense of a taxi..occasionally.  :)

    Thanks, Linda. I'm sure I will.  :)
Just out of interest, what percentage ( roughly ) of members here live in Los Gigantes ( or anywhere in Tenerife) and how many are just visitors ?

  • Leo, we on this message board are all residents of Los Gigantes apart from billi 161, a Methodist minister who had a holiday here quite recently.

  • thats not quite true, we are not all residents.  we should encourage tourists on this message board and us residents or apt owners can big up the beautiful place of los gigs and surrounding areas so the tourist can look forward to their hol and hit all of the best spots that we recommend.

If I were you leo i would hop in a taxi outside the terminal, roughtly 40 euro.  we too hire a car but have done the taxi thing without any probs.  once you get to los gigs, taxis are readly availble if you cant manage the stagger home from your night out.  You will have a great time, tell all your friends and come back..

    enjoy

  • Leo, I don't often post ... although I do read everything ... and although we get out several times a year, we are not residents ... or even apartment owners ... we rent a very nice flat, near the Oasis, at a very reasonable rate from a very nice local lady ... and do our airport  transfers these days courtesy of a very nice man we have got to know in Los Gigs ... we used to use Elmar, who never let us down, and were always cheaper than taxis ... but sometimes took a little more time to get to LG if they had drop-offs to do on the way ... you will see them in the arrivals hall at the airport ... when are you arriving? We're not back till mid-September ... you have a lovely holiday ... and as Gibbo says - tell your friends ...

Thanks for your good wishes and I will certainly spread the word about LG.
I had no idea that such an enthusiastic forum existed, it almost makes me feel like I know the place already..warts and all.  ;)

  • The very nice man that takes you to the airport is an illegal taxi driver so if you have an accident you are not covered . The point that i am making is these people that do airport runs do it cheaper because the dont  pay any tax or insurance . If all these nice people payed there way this would be a better off island . >:( >:( >:( >:(

  • More wise words from Ghod.

Maps you have gone to the root of the issue by using the word ldblquote servicedblquote  meaning commercial service.

If you have a serious accident  and your driverquote s insurance company contests its liability on the basis that the driver only had domestic rather than commercial cover, you could find yourself having to sue the driver who may be ldblquote  a man of strawdblquote  (not having the resources to pay compensation and cost). The net result could be no compensation and you having to pay your own legal costs. You may of course be covered by your own insurance but you would have to read the small print to be sure.

Anyone who has any experience of claiming from an insurance company will know that ldblquote being a bit pickydblquote  is something that insurance companies and their legal advisers  are very good at.

I for one would not get into a car if I thought the driver wasnquote t  insured.

  • owners do it as a easy way to hand over keys and make you welcome, if you worry about having a accident each time you leave the house just wrap yourself in cotton wool and wait for the undertaker

  • Ghod and Falstaff...thanks for the advice, I cant dispute your logic.
However, coming from London, and having entrusted my life and limbs to some fairly shady mini-cab drivers in the past..I would probably take my chances.
I will discuss it with my wife though, she is always more sensible than I am about such things.  :)
