I wonder if anyone can assist. My wife and I, full housetrained and non smokers, careful people,  have stayed many times in and around LG for 5 years and are now getting a bit older so want a peaceful life, no youths, kids or loud music!!!  We normally stay early January until middle February and would like something comfortable, with British TV, and QUIET. Did I mention the word quiet!!??  If anyone has any ideas please PM me. Many thanks.  Stuart and Clare BIRD (UK)

  • is it a hotel or apartment you want?

if its an apartment that's a very popular time of the year for longer stays and I think you'll find that most apartment owners will either be there themselves or will already have rented their apartment out, I know many winter holidaymakers book for the following year while they are there or as soon as they get back.

You could try Astliz, they have quite a few owners on their books

  •  I'm looking for exactly the same accommodation and I had exactly the same response from them - nothing at all. They are a total waste of time. I hope their clients realise the service they are being given.
We've still not found anywhere , hope you have better luck.

  • This will be an increasing problem on this side of the Island from Varadero to LG there are only 12 legal apartment complexes, we have rented ours for over 10 years because we were led to believe it was legal although we conform to all the Govt requirements inc reception the lastest fire & water systems we still can not get a licence it also has a 5* Gold rating from RCI

Our complex is small our Apt is our second home so is furnished & equipped to a better standard than any 5* hotel room, but we are illegal

We have been fined & had to deposit almost 14,000.00 Euro into the court bank in Tenerife, although the case has not been judged yet, this is why there is a shortage of accommodation, We can "let" people have our Apt but they have to be "friends & family".

  • No wonder property sales are so slow - It just seems so draconian, 14,000 - did they just pull that figure out of the air. Did you have a warning that you were 'illegal'. Have any locals (spaniards/tenirifians) also been targeted I am sure they let as well.

  • No pilgrim we did not know anything, like thousands of other owners, the only way we found out was somebody posted that we must find the BOC in Tenerife on line, which is the legal postings issued by the Government in Tenerife in Spanish & to try & find your NIE or your name & you were given 10 DAYS to reply. This was for people who mostly lived abroad, they did not notify us at our home address. If you were not in your property when the fines were issued they were taken back to the post office

The original fine was 18,000.00 Euro, we have had to employ a Spanish lawyer which has cost us almost 2,000.00 Euro to get it reduced so far to 13,800.00 Euro & as I said we along with all the other owners have had to lodge this in the Tenerife Court Bank. (ONE EASY WAY OF GETTING MONEY INTO THEIR BANK).

We have just returned from Tenerife following a month over there & I know May/June are the quite months, but it was like a ghost town in 20+ years we have never seen the restarunts, bars, supermarkets & roads so empty. I just hope the locals realize that it is their Government along with the Hotel groups that has caused them to loose their jobs & economic down fall of their Country, all for some hairbrained Idea that they are going to turn the Canaries into a 5* all Inclusive resort. What they have forgotten is that it is "US" the holiday maker that decides what we want NOT THEM

  • I would imagine you have had such little response from the agents as 6 weeks is not classed as long term and therefore they cannot help you. Many owners probbaly DO have accom but are too scared to post on here or other forums for fear of the huge fines. Mind you I have heard recently that they have been drastically reduced, I may be wrong but I think its now about 5k but if you are 'caught' again the fine will be hefty, I am sure someone will put me right. Good luck with your search.

  • I agree tlc that 6 weeks isn't long but I think an acknowledgement would have been polite.
I'm still looking but not getting any further. Fingers crossed something will turn up.

  • tlc, you are right & you are wrong, the JUDGE in the court RECOMMENDED that the fine be reduced to 5,000.00 but the Govt are after their pint of blood & they wont agree ( after all they have stopped holidaymakers coming here ) (DONT BELIEVE THE TOURIST FIGURES) "they need the money", and they are being pressurized by the hotel cartel who do not want us letting our apts

Also if we are "caught" the second time, not having "FRIENDS or FAMILY" staying in our property the fine will be 30,000.00 YES 30,000.00 EURO " good buy Tourism " GOD HELP TENERIFE.

  • Goodness!!!!!!!  We have stayed in what are now deemed to be "illegal" accommodation unknowingly and legal for 20 years!!!

I hope the authorities can sort something out.

Not there until December, in a legal, but good luck to everyone.

  • Magsnmike, are you legal ?, do you know for sure the property has a Tourist liecene, did you book it through the sole agent. If not then you are illegal. This is what the Government & the Hotel group Ashol ( I think they got the spelling wrong ) want, they want to control holidaymakers but what they have forgotten is it is " US " who decide where we want to go & stay, after all it is " US " that " PAY "
