110 days to go!

  • Today (my birthday) is always the trigger point for me to post on the board regarding our Christmas break in LG. As the nights begin to draw in and the temperatures plunge my thoughts drift to our 3 weeks in the sun at el marquess palace.

Ice cold dorada especial with a pizza from fettuccine or fajitas at the mexican are just around the corner, bring it on! Other favourites are the bamboo bar, bar camber, the green corner, el barco de nino, el timon, salzburg and many more. This year I am going to try a couple of places on the marina front so if anyone has a recommendation please post.

    The countdown begins!  8)

  • I'd love to be able to recommend Harbour Lites down on the marina but I hear that it's just closed.  Such a shame, it was our favourite spot but I wish Gail, Steve and Jason all the best.

  • We had an excellent meal there back in July ... one of the best in fact, so very sorry to hear this news. Having said that, the marina was very quiet of an evening when we were there, so guess it's another sign of the times.

  • Thats it you have got me excited now.   Just counted and its 117 days for us.   You enjoy that week before we get there!!!!!

We love Krishna's and coming from Manchester thats a great compliment as we have some of the finest Indian restaurants in the world!!!    We always have a meal in Hong Kong 97, a banquet with a bottle of wine thrown in, always lovely.    The restaurant next to the church, I cannot remember the name but lovely and fantastic for people watching as well as the great food. San Francisco, El Timon, Ninos Puerto Santiago, Mexican at PS.   Oh my goodness, they are so lovely, I hope I havent forgotten anyone.

We always say we will go to the harbour for an evening meal, we wander down and its always so quiet, we give it a miss!!! Sorry to all the businesses there.

Bars we love -  Bamboo, Richardsons, HP3, Bar Torreon, Courtyard, Green Corner, Blarney Stone, TJ's - not in any particular order and hope I have not forgotten any.

Have had a good night out in El Marques with entertainment.  Waiter service a bit slow, but my husband can get to the bar without any assistance so we never go thirsty!!!!!! Hic Hic!!!!

We used to go to Karaoke bar in PS but last December/January it wasnt open. Always great for a late late drink and a bit of dancing. Any news on that one?

Hope the sun keeps shining  8) 8) 8)

  • The Pound is dropping against the Euro at present. It may be worth getting some now if you have
    some spare cash.

About this time onwards last year - a 1 for 1 exchange developed.

I agree, each time we down go there it seems to be quieter than the last time, shame really as it could be a popular place if somebody could invest..... but thats another subject and not for this posting!!

Actually we ventured out to Playa Arena a few times last year and there are some nice bars/restaurants along that stretch, cant recall them now (I am another year older!) but it is well worth a wander down there.

We were hit hard with the exchange rate last year, we could only stretch to visit El Pozo twice with their prices, hopefully we should be around the 1.20euro mark this year and we are going to take full advantage!!!! ;D

  • Oh yes. 25 days have passed and the LG dream is nearer. Though looks like being another expensive 3 week gig.

Why can't so called experts keep there big traps shut and stop damning the economy which is causing the pound to plummit!!

  • Sorry to be putting a 'kibosh' on things, but with the pound getting ever so closer to parity with the Euro will Gordon Brown now go away and finally take the 'big step' and have the UK join the Euro zone???

Looking forward to our trip over to LG on 12th January for 8 weeks!!!

106 days left to gofor us!!!!!

  • Joining the euro zone would put us under the control of the Central European Bank - I'd for 1 would rather have my UK mortage rate at the rate set by the Bank of England not the rate set by the Central European Bank.

  • 8 weeks (+ 1 extra hour ;)) to go! Hibernation season, travel to work in the dark then come home in the dark.....GREAT! :'(

Going to the bull ring today to get some bobby dazzlers for lounging round the pool; Am tempted to get some euros whilst the rate is 1.06 or do I gamble and wait till it hits 1.10, which is 10% better than last year. Advice Please? :-\\

  • Smiffy, my advice to you is that you go away and get your Euro's at the best rate you can. With the pound weakening against the Euro all the time you don't know what might happen between now and when you go. The currencies might even reach parity by the time you go, so, why are you waiting? ?106 to ?100, grab it while you can, mate!!! I would!!! I don't have any worries along those lines as Ireland is in the Euro zone.

  • Thanks LadyGee, I think you may be right and I am going to purchase a few hundred pounds worth at the weekend as they are up to 1.08 today.

I am jealous of you're 8 weeks in January, we are thinking of having a gap year so we can do the same next winter, we're only in our mid forties! ;)

  • Smiffy,
We originally thought about going out to Tenerife for 3 months, but in the end the wife and myself decided that we'd just go for two months instead. I got a good deal on a two bed/two bath ground floor apartment in the Tamara complex, and so now we're just counting down the days. The reason why we can go for so long is that I managed to get myself a good redundancy package plus I also took Early Retirement. The wife was made redundant last April, and she's decided to take a year out, before she seriously goes looking for a job again. As we're in our middle and late 'fifties' and with the fact of we both having time on our hands we decided to try it out.
    76days and counting!!!!!!!

  • Things we are looking forward to when we arrive on the 19th:-

    1. Feeling the warm sun on our backs looking out to sea without listening to gloom and doom.

    2. Ignoring the exchange rate and having a jolly good holiday as we've waited all year for this (ignore exchange rate!)

    3. Sink teeth into a prime fillet steak at El Pozo's.

    4. Sup several red Murphy's at the bamboo bar.

    5. Watch sun go down and fireworks go up on New Years Eve from our balcony at El Marquess Palace.

    6. Watch Birmingham City spank Chelsea on the 26th in Highland Paddy's followed by an Indian at Krishna's.

    7. And 101 other Fab things ..... All suggestions well come!!
