SPAM!

  • I have noticed quite a few spam and weirdo type posts appearing on these boards of late. Whilst Gigi does a sterling job deleting them on a regular basis, one does wonder at the mentality of those who actually take the time to create a user account to post them. I am wondering if it would be possible to introduce either an email address verification aspect to the user account creation process, or introduce a 24 hour delay before a new member can post? Whilst most of the spam posted so far has been of the usual "buy my product" sort of stuff, there has been at least one maliciously offensive post which a couple of users commented on.
The fact that they commented at all probably gave this weirdo a kick from the knowledge that he had caused offence.
Anybody any thoughts on this?   :(

  • 'Tis gone now janey  ;D looks like Gigi has been weeding! I wonder if they bother to come back and check if their posts are still there? Perhaps if they do and notice how quickly they are taken down they may realise the futility of posting here? ( Although I suspect that there may be hundreds or even thousands of hopeful spammers lout there looking for places to post their dross)

  • There is a very worrying article in today's Times  about the growth of spam. Spammers may have taken control of up to  1 in 12 home computers which act as hosts for sending out more spam. Don't open email from unknown recipients and don't click on dubious links.

  • At least outside Tesco or in la Arena speaking to someone isn't going to run the risk of crashing your computer and costing an arm and a leg in repairs which could happen if you open some of the spam that is going the rounds!!

Sebastian, I dont know if this comment was directed at me, but unless Falstaff is also called Roy may I point out that I have kept my posts to the point and have not accused you of posting spam. FYI I run several spyware detection programs as well as firewall and antivirus.

  • Safety is always the best thing to do ROY and to be honest my comments where just the truth about a village that is in a TIMEWARP. The people now want more than LOS GIG can offer as seen by the decreased number of the once regular tourists...... Price my friend is everything and so is service. Not to much to ask in this day and age. Would you not agree??

  • Profuse apologies Sebastian, I have just logged on to this site for the first time today. Apparently, a spammer has taken over my computer and is posting all sorts of rude messages which have allegedly come from me. You canquote t imagine the trouble Iquote m in with the Vicarquote s wife.

I find the messages you have posted so far to be very informative, to the point, extremely interesting and very well written. Keep it up.

Must go now, the Vicar is at the door.

  • I dont think I have ever had a major problem with price/quality/service in LG. Strangely enough you can blame the decline in numbers visiting LG partly on the UK government. Firstly, they are bleeding us dry. They have taxed/licensed just about every damn thing you can think of - airport tax, anti-terrorism levy etc. They have made it extremely difficult for people with children of school age to holiday outside of the school term time. This has led the airlines to massively increase the fares at peak holiday times. Add to that the emerging holiday markets who are doing almost loss-leader inclusive prices in order to build their tourist industry and you can see what the problem is. The market is not a level playing field at the moment. The Spanish government also seem to be tightening up a lot on rules and regulations, usually incurring some cost to the businesses which has to be recouped. The UK now is dire, totally over-regulated. There have never been so many small businesses closing down, and each passing year sees a new record in personal bankruptcies.  :(

But linda, have you not heard of the new pollution tax? Its all to do with tiny little Britain setting an example to the likes of the USA and China, not to mention the rest of Europe. Our government are aliens, at least I dont believe they are from the same planet as us. Do they really think that anything we do will make the slightest difference to the rest of the world. Seems to me Blair and co. have got a very distorted view of their own and the UKs importance to the world.
I had a laugh at the News item about ITV wanting to do a program about ex-pats wanting to return to the UK. My advice to anyone who has been gone for a few years is dont. It aint the place you remember. Its only a matter of time before they start applying punitive taxes on people wishing to emigrate - I am serious.
Personally, I cant wait to get out and leave them to it.  >:(

  • Hardly politics Sebastian, mere disgruntled observations. To my mind there is nothing between any of the political parties once they are elected. They all end up screwing us over. I never comment on football, that way lies madness.... ::)
