  • i think everyone is aware and upset about this.... i know luz bay, it isnt disimilar to los gigantes.  a huge shock, shows exactly how sordid the world is becoming.   there is no control over pedophiles etc these days, years ago people would 'deal with their own', and keep things under control, not any more, politics have given these 'people' rights they should never have had. :(

  • Nikki you are absolutley spot on.. every effiort, albeit small, must be made. You cannot begin to imagine what Maddie`s parents are going through, it is bad enough waiting for the hourly bulletins from Sky News. I have a three year old daughter and laterly all I want to do is cuddle her and thank god that she is safe and with me. Lets hope they find her soon.

  • Tomorrow is Maddies 4th Birthday !!! how are her family going to cope!!!

The mother of Yeremi ( Jeremy) is tranqilised in hospital after she went banging on doors and forcing herself into houses, searching for her son,,,I would be the same...I would not stop until I knew for sure one way or another.

Sky news are hiding information from people , very cagey.

Spanish news showed the garage where they think two men and a women where videoed with a small girl strongly resembling Maddie.
Spanish news reports that they may be heading towards Seville...

anyone with friends or relatives over there, need to get posters up in English and spanish. Every little helps.   :( :( :( :( :(

  • There is only so much information being disclosed as the Portugese Authorities are playing this one very close to their chest. Remember we don't know who they are dealing with. Any information connecting individual/s could prove fatal for Madeleine.

  • Hi - this is just so tragic. Every hour i watch the news hoping and praying for a happy ending to this. What saddens me is the decision to scale down the search and the fact that it is not headline news here anymore. It is because of media pressure that any information is given to us by the police and if the media pull out of portugal i'm worried that the search might be abandoned completely.
I am in England so not sure how big a story this is in Spain, but like previous posts have said i urge anyone to forward the poster to people that they know on the mainland. Watching all of those cars just driving through the Portuese/Spanish border while the police sat in their cars out of the rain filled me with absolute rage.
I have an almost 3 yr old daughter and we are coming to Los G in a weeks time. Although my rational head tells me not to worry, my 'mum' head is already thinking of how safe our apartment is and how i can keep her even closer to us.

  • I think it has affected everyone over here and you see parents holding tightly onto the little ones hands or ever vigilant if they stray away even for a moment. I also have a three year old  and yes like every parent I do worry but I also thank God that this nightmare is not happening to  me. Try not to worry about coming here though we do have a caring community. ( even though we sometimes have a sly dig at each other on this forum!!)

  • Thanks Canarybird, i know it's irrational to worry but i know i will anyway. I have been coming to LG for 19yrs now, since i was a teenager, and can honestly say that i have always felt quite safe - including the last 2 years when we have bought our daughter with us. The thing is, the resort in Portugal was considered to be a safe place and that's why the McCann's probably let their guards down. Lets just hope this nightmare will be over for them all soon.

  •  I would never leave twins of two and a girl of 3 (4 yrs old Tomorrow) in an apartment and sit in a restaurant.
I would get my husband to bring in a pizza or something,,,theres no way I would leave my children alone in an apartment at such young ages !!! THAT WAS A MAJOR MISTAKE.
Do parents leave children that young alone in houses in the UK and go across a road ????

Our thoughts and prays are all we can offer the McCanns. Ive sent out loads of posters in English and spanish, and across to friends in Mainland Spain, Im addicted to the news,,,and shed a tear each I see little Madeleines photo. IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED !!!!

    ALWAYS BE VIGILENT !!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

  • Unfortunately those were my first sentiments but like you I cannot watch the news reports without emotion when you see the sheer pain etched on the parents of Maddie. This is something that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives. However we live in a world where people can enter a private residence, take a child and vanish without a trace. Who is to say that this may or may not have happened as the parents slept in a next door room, or had a drink on the balcony. How many times have you heard of robberies take place here in tenerife when the occupants have been in the house when the theft occurred.
I cannot attribute blame to the parents at this point as I cannot bear to see them suffer any further. I hope with all my heart that this will end soon.

  • In an ideal world you would not leave your children (however safe you thought they would be) in an apartment asleep whilst having a bite to eat.  Parenthood isn't as cut and dry as that though and sometimes, just sometimes we do things irrationally and lets face it if you have ever gone without sleep for long periods of time like myself and my husband then your judgement can be a little clouded.  The parents of Madeleine will have to live with this guilt for the rest of their lives - whether the outcome is good or not so good.  I for one will not be judging.

  • I just urge parents who are enough lucky to have children to be more vigilant ! especially when they are in a country where communicating may be difficult if anything happens.

There was a case HERE IN lOS GIGANTES, eight years ago of child molestion , I had to go with these clients to translate to the Guardia Civil, and the man involved was seen by a few people, and was beaten up. A few of the long time residents know of this person, I cant look at him, with out feeling disgust. However he left this island for a while and Im not sure what the result of the court was in the end.

The Spanish news have shown Drawings, and given descriptions of the two men and one women who are suspects, Posters have gone out in Spanish in the mainland, and the we the residents are with maddies family in our thoughts and prays.

Today is Maddies 4th birthday, how short the age of innocence is.

  • Watched a very interesting interview on BBC News 24 with a British ex-senior policeman.

Apparently, there is little or no evidence that the apartment was broken into. Sniffer dogs traced the child's scent from the apartment to a local supermarket, indicating that she may have just wandered off. The trail ended at the supermarket.

This would minimise the chance that it was an organised international snatch. If true, this would increase the chance that the child is being held locally.

This is obviously good news from a crime detection point of view  but whether it increases the chances if the child being safe remains to be seen.

  • What i find so frustrating is the lack of information from the Portugese police. For goodness sake it was almost a week after she had gone before pictures of her pyjamas were shown and i find it unbelievable that Madeleine's distinctive eye was mentioned only yesterday. Surely this is vital information? Her hair and clothes can be changed but her eyes will stay the same.
Sounds like the spanish news are giving more info that than the british networks, they have just shown outlines of the 3 suspects. Mind you, it looks like the trail has gone cold with those people now as they haven't been mentioned much today. God i hope this nightmare is over for the family soon.

  • The news breaking this morning is that Murant is the prime suspect, in possibly picking up madeleine and selling her on !!!!

Murant has a four year old daughter as well, im not sure that the Police are just grasping at straws.
A portugese man, and a German women where seen being whisked away, from the Police station after 19 hours interrogation.

Letshope this is a major lead, but i fear that Madeleine is far away from Europe now.

Bloody parents !!!!! they should have been with there Children...
Poor Madeleine with parents like that !!!

  • Does the punishment fit the crime, Madeline'b4s parents will have to live with the consequences of their actions for the rest of their lives. I am not sure if it is the same here but to leave children alone in Portugal is deemed as a criminal offence as such they could face prosecution. In which case what will happen to their other two children..?

  • I really don't want to get into a slanging match here but please don't condemn the poor parents for their actions. Have you never made a mistake?

    I blame no-one other than the abductor/s.

Also from what I have read and heard Madeleine's parents are good people, but hey I don't know them personally just as I suspect you don't.

  • Don'b4t misunderstand me I really do feel for the parents what I am trying to say is whatever people may think about what they should or shouldn'b4t have done at the end of the day it is something they will have to live with and you cannot begin to imagine what kind of torture that must be. Being a parent is the hardest job in the world and not withstanding your own fears and worries you have to deal with comments made by other people which can sometime be very cruel. I am a one parent and I have to shoulder the responsibility of my child alone and yes you do sometimes make mistakes and on hindsight it is easy to look back and say I wish I had done that or I should have done that a different way. We are afterall human and as the old saying goes to err is human to forgive divine.
