Building collapse

  • There has not been an awful lot of coverage here, not on BBC news anyway. First we heard was when my son txt yesterday afternoon to say there has been a earthquake in Los Chris! Apparently local radio said earthquake! so you can imagine we just thought the worst, and in a way pleased it was an explosion.

A seventh body was found around 6.45pm on Saturday April16, that of a man who has just been brought out of the rubble after his body was located by sniffer dogs shortly after lunchtime yesterday. This completes the total of those who were thought to have been inside the building when it collapsed. There will be a further press conference by Arona Ayuntamiento about how the rescue and recovery works will proceed from this point, and no doubt at this stage eyes will turn to responsibilities and causes for the collapse.

A minutes silence will be held at the CD Tenerife football game this afternoon in Santa Cruz.

  • Thank you for the update, news of it here in UK has been very quiet. Guess it is because no Brits were involved.
