Brits have low standars

  • Hi everyone,

I have read with great interest the discussions corncerning the restaurants and bars in Los Gigantes.

As a Dutchman I can tell you all that for the most part, the bars are vastly overpriced and that the restaurants serve hideous food (with the exception of the amazing Rincon Juan Carlos), and the reason that they are so poor is that the Brits are used to crap food at home and expect more of the same whilst on holiday.

I have always loved Los Gigantes because of the friendly atmosphere, but in recent years the resorts have gone downhill and the number of Brits has increased.  The restaurants have fought with each other to provide as much English rubbish as possible, to the detriment of the other europeans who used to go to Los Gigs.

The answer is to kick the Brits back to the nasty little island they come from.

  • There you go told you so we have almost forgotten about the other nationalities that also are highly upset. All i can do Rudy is apologise for the lowering standards and service provided in the once quaint village, which will more than likely go under due to GLOBAL WARMING

  • Thankyou for your concern Sebastian, you seem to have touched a few nerves on this forum.

The other nationalities who used to frequent Los Gigs have found that the overwhelming attitude of the Brits, both tourists and ex-pats, is one of superiority, over the locals and other nations alike.

The British complain about immigrants going to the UK, but when they move to a Spanish country they kick off if they cannot get a sloppy sunday lunch, or a greasy breakfast.

Global warming may well wash Los Gigs off the map, but not before the little englanders have ruined it to the extent that no-one wants to go there anyway.

  • Janey,

Perhaps I have missed the part of the website that says Losgiantesforenglishpeopleonly.com

I am entitled to contribute to the forums, discussing bars and restaurants, I have holidayed in Los Gigs many times, and used to love it very much.

Unfortunately, there are too many narrow minded, insular, inconsiderate, illiterate, irate and downright rude Brits in Los Gigs these days for my taste. I now only holiday where I can be assured of meeting open minded, interesting, discerning (that means standards to you) people, who love good food and good atmosphere in the bars and restaurants they go into, not just big portions and plenty of chips.

What exactly do you mean by this and how is it to be achieved?

  • Janey,

Now I holiday in the Caribbean. There are many resorts to choose from and the weather is comparable to the Canaries.

I certainly do not hate the Brits, in fact, since holidaying in the caribbean I have met a nicer class of Brit, people who choose to mix rather than set themselves apart.

I wish I could reduce my flight time and cost back down to the Tenerife levels, but if I have to pay more and travel further to enjoy myself, I will.

The fact that I own timeshare in Los Gigs, at the Harbour Club, means that these days I am forced to exchange rather than go to my home resort.

  • Falstaff,

I think that forced re-patriation is the answer, send the Brits back to Britain, where they can enjoy crap food and overpriced bars without ruining the atmosphere for the rest of the world.

  • Rudy,You have done exactly the right thing there. If you have become disenchanted with Los Gigs in its current incarnation then, as you do, go elsewhere to spend your money and enjoy your time ! There is no point in you coming back to somewhere you clearly don't care much for anymore. It might even be worth considering selling that timeshare ?

Perhaps I am lucky to have not encountered many rude and inconsiderate Brits or other nationalities during my many visits ?
I still enjoy coming back, but heck, my standards are probably considerably lower than yours ?

Message board starting to get a bit 'personal' and 'tetchy' again so lets just live and let live ?

Again being a little HYPERCRYTICAL on a subject your not very well learned on,people buy not to sell but to enjoy and enjoy good standards of accomodation and not that low quality pine stuff in most Los Gig appartments. There we go again my taste over yours.

  • Message to Rudy and Sebastian.  It is perhaps just as well you have found alternative places to spend your time and money.
As far as the Brits are concerned you will find that you are " persona non gratia ".  If you do come back a low profile would be recommended.

  • Sebastian, if I may too be just a tad critical. Timeshares were on sale at the H.C. donkey's years ago so if you purchased then you could, if you wish, sell up now and walk away with a tidy profit. If you leave it too long the tide will be lapping against your balcony ! Some people do indeed buy to sell and many make a reasonable standard of living doing just that.
If you bought to enjoy then it seems that your dream has been shattered and the influx of Brits has brought about the downfall of your Shangri-La. If that is the case and you are as fed up and miserable as you sometimes convey in your missives then you sure ain't enjoying anymore. I am sure that your accommodation is furnished to perfection with the very latest in Swedish good taste ? I do find that light pine does compliment my burgundy flock wallpaper.

I also believe that 'Rudy' must be your other personality, your alter ego or someone you have made up to confuse us !
One day you were metaphorically scratching your chin wondering where 'Rudy' had gone before his amazing appearance that very next day.
That very large chip on your shoulder must be English, greasy and so very very working class to be getting you down so.

Another one filled with all the importence of "YOKEL LOCAL" but sorry to say it was not i that bought T/S @ h/c but i have to say i bought on G.C. 5 star GOLD CROWN no less near Arguinegan. Very nice. Exchanged all over the world as well. Sadly i bought alittle nest egg in Los Gig where all you Village People (not the group) as in the film as quoted before by the director of "UNBREAKABLE" and other great movies seem to think that YOUR Village cant take any criticism on improving the area therefore increasing my investment. Surely you realize the importance of looking after the pennies.........................

  • Sebastian,

I am not worthy. 'Yokel Local' ? Ooh, I am so hurt. You are so well travelled and so posh. Your nest egg has turned out not to have been laid by the Golden Goose.
You and Rudy will just have to jet away to the sun a little farther afield to enjoy an Oranjeboom or two in suitably plush surroundings.
I haven't complained of your criticism, I am just saddened by the hopeless misery of your situation.
Additionally I cannot take you, Rudy or myself too seriously.
Sebastian, Gran Canaria dot com awaits you.

I'm off for fish, chips, mushy peas and a pewter tankard of stout. Yokel Local, tee hee hee.

you to must be well traveled as well so why the cant you get it into your mind that i am not Rudy although have drunk many oranjeboom with him. With regards to my "MISERY" it confounds me of the simple yet hyper-crytical views that some of you so called EXPAT or as i would put it YOKEL count against me for bringing valid claims to quetion.

  • Sebastian,

Muchisimas gracias for giving me a good old belly laugh and helping me to reach my 50 posts. Your messages have lifted my spirit !  I thought that I was miserable and depressed but lo ! a sudden shining light ! someone out there is more miserable than me.
If you say you are not Rudy then that is good enough for me.
I have been scanning Rudy's posts for any hint of an accent but since most Dutch Nationals have a command of English at least equal to us home grown natives if not considerably better and more eloquent I am utterly confounded.
I also cannot find the word 'Yokel' in my Spanish dictionary. Would you please be so very kind as to translate for me ?
    Have a pleasant evening.

  • YOKEL is a Somerset word for a "LOCAL" OR EVEN a form of "WOODPECKER and would more than likely not show in the dictionary my friend. As for being miserable nothing further from the truth as my typing speed is increasing with each day on LOSGIG.COM. As you say it ain't easy to hear accents in writing so maybe Rudy is like you and holds a good command of the English language.

  • I was seeking out the 'hint of an accent' in the grammar, metre and sentence construction of our fine fellow European !

I am glad that you are not miserable, people often mistakenly consider Michael Winner to be a self important, pompous and self-opinionated just because he wishes to raise standards to a similar level to yourself. It is a thankless task Sebastian.

Your typing speed improving and a massively increased 'correct hit' on the right keys simultaneously. Well done that man !

I am now slipping out of the fray.

    Buenas noches amigos

Can't let those standards slip too low.

  • Hola amigos, he llegado.

Deepest rural Hampshire has not been too bad at all today. A small tornado in southern Hampshire last Saturday morning and similar freak weather conditions in Welsh Wales today or yesterday. I would try and spell Ceridigion but I might get pinkestlady chastising me when she is next online. Sadly a rare visitor these days and probably spending too much time getting covered from head to foot in mud during scrums and mauls.
It is good to see the succinct and concise character assessment put forward by our northern european friend Larsson. No nonsense or beating about the bush there then. Rudy has kept himself quiet for a little while now but we look forward to his return.
Your spelling is coming along in leaps and bounds Sebastian, we all hit the odd incorrect key every now and then but it pays to slow down a bit as your temper rises ! You should, of course, be having a 'liaison' with the mayor. Another one of those sneaky words. You also need to check members names more - some you are getting dreadfully wrong !  'a1 hasta pronto !

  • We do have a bit of a laugh don't we ?

I would disagree that we Brits set ourselves low standards, then fail to achieve them. Look at the sartorial elegance of Roy in his very smart attire !  I am surprised that he was overlooked and they plumped for that Craig chap instead.

Mrs Kipling, of course, makes exceedingly good cakes and garlicbread is an absolute must for an enjoyable evening meal.

I did get the bit about word variations of the web names but thank you for the little clue. I do not want you to credit me with too much intellect !!!  As shown in my avatar I came over here many years ago to star in a locally made film with Raquel Welsh and sort of stayed on. Extinction not being my thing. Did I tell you about my History Master, Mr Gray ?.......
