Can't really argue with your comments, especially with English run bars, where you can pay 3 Euros a glass for paint stripper.  Many of the Spanish owned bars don't do much better but prices tend to be much cheaper.  Two notable exceptions, Bar Plaza in Santiago and Tasca Llano in Alcala, both serve good quality wines for 2 Euros a glass.

When you can buy perfectly acceptable Red (or white) Wines for under 4 Euros a bottle its difficult to understand why people serve cra*, but then again if you don't like it complain and don't go back.

  • I see little point in buying wine by the glass. Buy the whole bottle and enjoy at a leisurely pace. Fall asleep in the sun or walk home.

Are things heading downhill on these forum pages again ?

    Fun please amigos, FUN !!

  • Wine bars generally are overpriced, serving mediocre wine. That's why I prefer the terrace with a bottle.

    Cheers !! :P

  • Oh if we are talking wine drinking why not get out and about and try the local brew. Of course you take your risks there but it has been known that some of these Spanish bars out back serve a reasonable wine by the jugful so who wants to worry about "by the glass" or "bottle" even. After the first shudder it quite grows on you, and it's cheap!!!!

  • Some of the local wine served chilled out of the barrel at the back of the bar in a copper jug can be good .. as long as its cold (red or white). You have to go a short ways uphill from LG to get that nowadays.

Generally, I stick to Dorada when out and about, or a bottle of the red stuff over a meal.

    there we are then

  • If you want a nice large glass of either red, dry or med white for  only 2'80 try the El Patio Bar on the hill just before Spanish corner the Dorada is cheap too and in frozen glasses

  • Agreed! My favourite stopping place when out for a walk. Not Los Gigantes though, strictly speaking.
