  • spoke to fred he has decided to do deliveries only at the present time as he is still looking for a suitable local. the telephone number is still the same, as is the quality of the food. he is looking forward to seeing all his regular customers  when he delivers and in the future at the new bar. fred and glynis will still be cooking the same menu from the catering kichen they are renting regretfully the temporary premises does not have the facilities for a restaurant. Watch this space for further information.

  • caught up with fred today passed on your message he said he will contact you asap but really busy looking for new premises looks forward to seeing you when out next. i agree with you their food is good even if some people on this site think everyone should eat canarian every meal, which i find very strange as the english enjoy many other types of cuisine in england why shouldnt the canarians have the same opportunity here.

With an ocean full of good tasty fish out there, maybe the Canarians, and for that matter many ex pats, are non too keen on frozen cod? and Iceland batter ;)

  • Oh Dear quondam obviously you have never tasted the cod and chips produced by Glynis the batter was always light,  crispy and cooked to perfection and yes you are  right the cod was frozen. For me I would dearly have liked to try churne (Local Wreck Fish) in batter. but as for island frozen batter i guess you are thinking about other establishments that claim to do real fish and chips.

  • borris i also like cherne but the problem here is that most of the cherne is imported from the nile and comes in frozen exactly like the cod. when i vsited freds one evening they had an alternative fish which was panga i tried it and found it was a cross between cod and haddock taste wise but not as meaty the flesh was a lot softer but as we all know the most popular fish have been over fished and alternatives must be found given a few years the fish will restock naturally and we will all be able to enjoy what we are partial too.

  • I don't think that the builduing work has anything to do with Fred, I heard that he moved from those premises because the rent and rates were just too high.

  • I tried calling Fred on his mobile several times today but just got a recorded voice telling me "there is no signal".  I'm desperate for some of Glynis's cod & chips but guess I will just have to try the old Friars next to El Meson.

Anybody know what's happening with Fred & Glynis?  Are they still frying and delivering from temporary premises?

  • Juan, go to Tajinaste tonight about 10.30 and you can ask him yourself. He is usually there with Glynis.

  • fred said he is sorry to have missed your call today but due to a power failure the mobile battery could not be charged electricity is now back on and mobile is now working normally no problem for deliveries as they are still working from the catering premises and doing deliveries only.  sorry fred could not apologise personally but he is working the power fm gold radio between 5.00 and 8.00pm. i believe friars are closed and have been for 6 months.

  • Thanks all.  We eventually tried the Sports Club next to the tennis courts/bus stop.  They do an excellent hake in beer batter on Fridays and we enjoyed this very much.  Pleased to hear Fred and Glynis are still in business and will try again next week, by which time Fred will hopefully have recharged his batteries!

  • We like fish and chips.  We also like Canarian food, French food, etc.,  but we are here for 5 months of the year and miss traditional British food occasionally. :P

  • Well, after all that I tried to call Fred and order fish and chips for four on Friday (again!) and got the dreaded "no signal" message all day.  I saw Glynis at the harbour last week and she definitely confirmed that they were still in business.  Have I got the right number 678 195 750?

So, it was back to the Wine Bar for hake and chips again this week.  I can certainly recommend it.

  • Thanks, Edward.  Can't see how they can survive without a telephone now they only do telephone orders.  Shame.
