The next Gig by "Underground" at Tajinaste is Sunday 24th June from 4pm

Food served all day.

The Tajinaste restaurant is near the small village of La Caldera on the Tamaimo road.

How to get there:- From Los Gigantes Police/Fire station follow up the hill on the Tamaimo road for aprox 1km. Turn right into the village of La Caldera (there is no sign post) go past the laundry and turn left after the little church. Follow the very narrow road until you come to a fork in the road (aprox 1km). Fork right. Here you will see a small car park and the restaurant.

They play mostly Rock music - anything from Eagles to Pink Floyd.

Why so far out of town? - It's not that far, only a couple of km (see directions at top of page).  There is nowhere in the village that can cater for the band, their equipment and the number of people attending.  The band do make a lot of noise but the neighbours join in instead of complaining.  Good food served all day.  Kick off around 4pm, by 6pm most people are dancing. Those not dancing are singing along and tapping their feet.

  • hi dolly,
i'm delighted  to hear that a good crowd turns up etc, but, the thread was holidaymakers who arrive for a week and then go home!   they are highly unlikely to be able to participate really are they?  they then go home thinking my god, the scenery is gorgeous but theres nothing else to do - bring me back when i am past it.....

i know tajanaste, i go several times to eat, but, we drive there! i wouldnt be bothered getting a taxi etc if i didnt know what was going on up there.

  • There is another side of this that I feel I must point out.  Those who feel Los Gigantes is a nothing place must go round with their eyes shut.  There is plenty to do, and something for everyone. As everyone knows I am a diver and divers and their families specifically come to Los Gigantes for the diving.  The water is sub tropical, the underwater rock formations are superb and the fish life is amazing.

Whilst divers are out on dives families always seem to find something to do.  Beach, pool, dolphin/whale trips, etc. and in the evenings they are always advised of the best places to go in this area. Some want entertainment, some a quiet romantic meal, others a lively night and I donquote t care how some of you pull the place apart there IS something for everyone and the proof is that divers come back to Los Gigantes time and time again, over 50% of business is repeat business. (Night life and restaurants are based on the area covered from Los Gigantes to El Varadero). Donquote t take my word for it just look at the boats going out. I have talked to many divers who have ended up staying in Las Americas and they drive to Los Gigantes for the diving and wished they had been staying in this area.

There is something else too.  I have lived here for almost 17yrs.  Moved away for a few months and was glad to be back, there is nowhere else I would rather live. Social life is really good and there is no shortage of things to do, the biggest problem is not enough hours in the day to fit everything in. As moderator I have to read all your moans and groans about the place. Those of you who always moan should not be living here!

Yes this area is quiet at the moment but speaking to friends in business in Las Americas and in Puerto De La Cruz it is the same there, business is down, so it isnquote t just in this area.

Ok Iquote ll get down from my soap box now. No doubt I will have opened up a hornets nest now!

  • Dolly, I might give this diving business a go next time I visit. Sounds very interesting indeed.  But is there a device that will enable me to drink alcohol underwater.

  • i agree with you totally dolly, except, i do think we need to cater for the younger ones. my kids have been coming here for years, but, now they are in the university stages they find it too quiet. i still want them to enjoy coming here but there really is nothing for them in the evenings!  i am afraid that the village will just get quieter and quieter ....

it is a lovely village and so are the surrounding towns, it could be the nicest resort in tenerife.   we can keep it up market,  just introduce a few lively bars, new younger bands,  please......

  • Falstaff - We have tried various ways of drinking alcohol underwater some of them were very successful (in very shallow water may I ad before I get all the safe diving practices thrown at me!) but the best fun is to enjoy the dive put the kit away then enjoy a good drink in the nearest bar.

Janey - There really is something for your kids out here, but I have already answered you today under previous section in Fun @Los Gigantes.
I have 2 children that are now in their 20's.  They are never stuck for somewhere to go or nothing to do in this area.  In fact my daughter now has her own family and does not want to move out of Los Gigantes

Linda - It's "Underground" rehersing.  They say they do keep the doors and windows closed to try to keep down the noise and they only reherse between 11am and 1 pm one day a week for this reason.  They say they look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

that is my point, she is now 'local'!  there is nowhere for younger tourists to go! tourists being the operative word!

  • Janey you obviously haven't read my reply to you yesterday under Fun @ Los Gigantes.

There IS something here in this area for everyone.  Don't knock this area when you don't know half of what's going on.

  • on the whole, without offending anyone i hope, the local teenagers will stick with their own regular crowd, which i dont blame them, they are there all the time.  this means one or two teenagers on hols arriving into a bar where it is all locals, can sometimes feel not very welcome.  it is the same the world over!! this is why i am asking for recommendations of  places for teenagers/ twenty odd yr. olds  who are on holiday to visit and meet other holiday makers!  i hope you understand what i mean!

  • I wouldn't worry Janey.  Youngsters these days are not slow at coming forward.  I`m sure they will have sussed out the place before they have even unpacked.  They will be off having fun and you will wonder why you were concerned in the first place.

  • We are arriving in Los Gigantes tomorrow for 3 weeks 8) and wondered if anyone knew where the 'Underground' are playing during that time? I know that they play at Tajinaste sometimes on a Sunday, but I saw them play at ROUTE 66  in May.

  • Shame you wern't here a week earlier. Sunday was a very good day.  Kevin, the band leader is now on holiday for two weeks and Tajinaste closes for holiday next week, for two weeks I think.  You can see the other members of the band playing at the Courtyard, opposite Barcello Varadero on Tuesday evenings. Watch this board for more details.

If you want a good night out how about the Lions Dinner Dance on Sat 7th July very good entertainment, expected to go on until at least 3am.
    If you want tickets call the losgigantes.com office (Mon - Fri 10am - 5pm) 922 862713

  • There is a great duo at pilgrim's in playa de la arena every monday thursday and saturday form 9pm. The band is known as just1more and consists of Ray & Steve the bass and leas guitarists from the tajinaste underground band. Saturday is usually the best night and most people head down to highland paddy 2, the karaoke bar, around midnight.
