  • Whiskey, please dont take this the wrong way, as a newcomer I have seen posters blocked from posting and threads closed, you advertise the Clubhouse on two other threads, is this just to be a complete advertising thread ie General topics? Or is it to be what it says GENERAL topics. I am now well aware that this messageboard is run by locals and the voice of local polititians, post what WE say or we will close it down. I notice that you instead of Chinita (I think) is now constantly pushing the Clubhouse. I have never been so cannot comment on how good it is, but surely the General topic forum is for news related to Los Gigantes, not your repeated free advertising.
    Rant over.

  • Yes - i'm afraid Whiskey is using the forum as an advertising platform for his/her establishment.

Since he/she signed up  on 17th March this year he/she has posted on 14 separate occasions as follows:-

4 times on 18th March (3 under General Disc and 1 under Eating Out) - 5 times on 22nd March  (4 under Eating Out and 1 under Gen Disc) - twice on 24th March (under eating out) - once on 1st Apr (Eating out) - and again today 6th (under Gen Disc)

Some of those postings are not showing on the forum, but if as a registered user you sign in and click on Whiskey you can see the postings.

Ironically of the postings that remain for viewing - 2 on the 18th March have no replies, 2 on the 22nd also have no replies, and similarly the posts on 24 March, 1st Apr all have no replies.

My point being that the use of a forum is to stimulate talk on certain topics, we seem to have been bombarded with  adverts for the Clubhouse.  I notice that Dolly has kindly put up for all to see a schedule of events at the Clubhouse under Entertainment for April

  • Hi, Raymond here.

Its an interesting point that people are making here. there is no doubt that most of the threads published here in the last 2 months have been about the Clubhouse. It can mean one of several things.

    1) The Clubhouse is paying this website so that they can publicise their business as much as possible. The owners of this website must be happy that they do this or they would be removed, hence i assume(ass out of you and me) that this must be the case.

    2) If that is the case, there are many businesses in Los Gigantes that can also possibly benefit by advertising on the threads, suggest that the owners should make an announcement if this is the case and invite all businesses to promote their offers here for a fee. I am sure many would take up the offer.

    3) If this not the case, how can just 1 business post most of the threads here, and not be deleted?

    4) If there is a business opportunity for the owners of losgigantes.com to make more money(I don't have a problem with that) then maybe a separate thread where all businesses can post all offers, all shows, all menus, all parties , infact anything that they want to post (maybe for a fee), then at least we would see a better example of what offers many businesses have in the area.

    5) The fact that this topic being discussed, suggests that the reality is that there is not a great deal of interest from many people to post topics on this site, its sad but its true. So suggest the owners come up with a way of regenerating interest in this site soon, or else more people will give up posting. I know that hosting a website is cheap, but a site that has no interest other than one business promoting everything they do, it not of great interest to many people who holiday or live in los gigantes. Infact i would say that when just one business posts so many threads on the discussion topics, it actually puts people off visiting the premises, because simply it suggests that they are not so busy, hence they post every day almost, its human nature that many think like that.

6)I wish everyone who runs a business the very best of luck, whether its a website, a bar, restaurant, shop or whatever, times are tough, but i do suggest that the owners need to rethink what is Losgigantes, com, is it working how they thought it would after so many years (probably not). Do they care about it anymore? ( maybe they are busy with other things, or maybe they HAVE lost interest)

    7) IF they do care about it, Would the owners please respond to all of the comments on this thread, to explain why is it allowed that the clubhouse posts so many threads, what are your thoughts about this site? has their interest died or what? what plans you may have?

    and finally

It will be a shame if this site disappears, i hope not, but rest assured, if it does, there will be a queue of other people ready to open a new site, that is Interesting, Community minded, involves many, many local people and holiday makers alike, that is fair, allows people to make their own opinion known, has advertising In a separate area from day to day comments about life in the area,..........Oh, am I giving the owners some ideas !!! maybe, lets see what happens from just my comment...

    many thanks

    Raymond and family

  • Well Well, what a fuss!!!
We do not intend to offend anyone with our posts on the forum,

Sorry Big John if you felt the taxi ride was a waste of time, you looked like you really enjoyed the music? we did explain that you had come after a packed night on Thursday for the Curry club
take a look at the great review we got here http://redqueenmusings.wordpress.com/

We have an agreement with Los Gigantes.com regards our advertising, as all advertisers do, and this is a way of pushing out information and letting the locals and visitors to the island know what we have on, please just select a different topic if you do not wish to read about our venue.

Take care everyone, and remember Folk Club is on Friday, come and join us for a great night of acoustic music with The Gaffers.....

  • Thanks Whiskey for your comments.

Thanks Raymond for your comments  but Whiskey has put over the commercial point of the site very well.  Yes any business who advertises with us are allowed to post.  Other forum users have to right to click on the topic or to ignore it.

This post has been moved from General to eating out.

  • Whiskey, I didnt think it would be long before someone had to comment. You cant win my friend. I cant count how many times I have mentioned in passing what a super night I have had for one thing and another at The Clubhouse, for someone to say "WHY DIDNT I KNOW ABOUT THAT EVENT".
Anyway, must just say we all had a super Saturday this week at The Clubhouse for the Grand National, great buffet and lots of fun. Unfortunate that BIG JOHN picked a quiet night as The Clubhouse has been bursting at the seams for many of the recent events. Myself and many of my friends are looking forward to some of the great events you have lined up for the coming months. Missed Folk Club this Friday unfortunately  but that is always a super night as well as the great bands you have playing there. including Traveller, Pheonix and the amazing Toby Graham every other Sunday. Well done for all your hard work.

  • Having just returned after our second four month stay it seems fairly clear that there are a large amount of people who take great enjoyment from moaning at the slightest excuse. Nothing to do, nowhere to go or eat etc. If someone puts themselves out to do something slightly different/entertaining its too noisy or they can't be bothered to go. If an advertiser or a web site owner tries to engender a bit of enthusiasm about something albeit they may (hopefully) make a profit they're derided. For goodness sake you don't have to go and you don't have to read the web site but by continuing to make derogatory and negative remarks about everything in the surrounding area the only thing you will end up with is no businesses and no visitors! Or is that what you are aiming at? I have no connection with either The Clubhouse or LG.com

Personally I put it down to jealousy and small mindedness - Instead of encouraging and supporting new businesses with the hope that the knock on effect will benefit the whole community by people coming to the area, there are those who want to see anything different fail.

They are not even prepared to support their own, members of Traveller and Phoenix live in LG yet ask anyone who lives west of Playa Arena who Phoenix is and they haven?t a clue.  Residents should be shouting about what great venues they have in their area, what fantastic musicians, and what a friendly crowd they themselves are, OK poetic license on the last bit. :-\\

If you want LG and the area to curl up and die then continue as you are spreading your vitriol otherwise get of your backsides and support ALL of your businesses, (not just the Clubhouse) but every bar, restaurant, entertainer, needs their good points to be pushed as much as possible in this current climate you cannot expect people to survive purely on tourists - locals need to do their bit too.

Just my opinion but if something is advertising an event or giving information it does not need replies.

You haven't quiet grasped it yet have you !!  My point is that there is a time and a place for advertising and I for one (and seemingly others as well) do not believe the forum pages of this website are appropriate.

Edward I am certainly not ignoring the Gaffers, I have been to see them play at the Clubhouse and they know how good I think they are because I have spoken to them.  In saying that when I was there it would seem that their audience are mainly locals who enjoy getting behind the mic and doing their own thing.  Perhaps if these same people supported the newer entertainers they could also partake in the evenings entertainment.

I would also ask what the Gaffers do to market themselves as it would seem others could learn from them.

  • Chiquita, they do not need to market themselves they try to give the audience an entertaining sing along experience, without the decibels, and at the same time try and help Adam with his new venture.
