restaurant name please ???

  • Has anyone been to the restaurant on the way out of Los Gigs as you go towards the new viewing platform - it's sort of tucked away on the right hand side and looks very traditional - I'm sure it's name begins with 'm' and they advertise rabbit on a menu board outside and think they have a big grill for BBQ foods. We've been passed many times by taxi but I've never managed to catch the name, a local guy told me the meat was supposed to be excellent - any comments please - I'll try it when I'm back out in Sept.

  • El Meson and it's my favourite place to eat.  You won't be disappointed.  Enjoy and remember you can have a choice of a free bottle of house wine to take away with you or a local taxi (personally we like to walk off the delicious meal.)

  • I think you mean "La Masia! tlg not El meson. El meson is further down , looking over towards the Hotel Barcelo Santiago.

La Masia is on the main road across from the new Gigansol building, ( the one thats wiped out the restaurants views! pity)

  •  My mind was in the other direction - I still recommend El Meson though and chances are that you have already dined there. I do apologise for the mix up. ::)

  • La Masia seems to be somewhat of a strange animal - its been a restaurant for many a long year.  I have never been in for a meal but often walk past and more often than not the place is empty or at best only  a couple of couples (!) eating.  The menu at one time seemed to be quite extensive but one wonders how fresh the foods are bearing in mind the very low customer count against the stocking of fresh foods a large proportion of which surely must be destined for the basura.  On the plus side, it has kept open whilst others fail, shame that their view has been totally obscured by the new build.  I wonder whether they hope that new apartment owners/tenants will support it.

I recall years ago before it was a restaurant it was a house and had a nice white convertable VW Beetle parked outside - I am going back a bit mind.  I really must give it a try, although I have to say I prefer a little company - if I eat with Mrs Kid might as well have stayed at the apartment.
I wanted to be the Cincinnati Kid - but couldn't spell it

  • If you like the rabbit, in La Masia it's very, very good,  but only the rabbit. For the meat I prefere El Meson or Nova Bleue.

  • Thanks everyone - it was La Masia I was thinking of - it was open nearly every night when we passed a fortnight ago. I must get around to trying El Meson - been coming for years and still never tried it. On my list for Sept are the following: Juan Lana, Nova Bleu, Mamma Lucias, El Meson and the fish restaurant in Alcala, think it's called Casa Juan.

  • We have been going to La Masia for years and have seen it change from a thriving busy restaurant where you had to book to get a table to what it is today which is as Losgigantes kid says often empty or only a couple of tables occupied. We still go once or twice when we visit Los Gig as we like the restaurant itself { the furnishings are very Spanish} and we have got to know and like the owners. The food is O k especially the rabbit dish and the barbecue pork chops. It is also very clean and well worth a visit if you havent been before. I think they expected it to be busier with the new apartments opposite but this doesnt seem to have happened. Im always suprised to find it still open each time we come over. The menu hasnt changed over the years and when pesetas changed to euros they just put in a decimal point so for example  500 pesetas became 5.00 euros BUT prices have not increased since then.

  • The restaurant doesn't look that inviting from the outside.

The sign for 'MISED GRILL' always makes me chuckle.

  • It is very attractive inside and the furniture is most unusual. The garden is interesting too. The only drawback is that the loo is in the garden and if it is dark you have to watch your step.!! The whole place has great potential. It is owned by a Spanish brother and sister. She does the cooking and he waits at table. I would love to see them get more custom as they really work hard.

They also own a gift type shop in the shopping mall in Puerto Santiago near the entrance to the Hotel V........ {cant remember its name}and they both work there most days .

So glad your going to try the restaurant Janey. Shame they have lost their view though. You used to be able to see the lights on the Barcelo Hotel before the apartment block was built .

    La Masia closes on Wednesdays
