  • Nice food - very good indeed - very bleue decor doesnt add colour to food. Sadly will not go back because the place smelled like an old ash tray -lady put down her fag picked up our plates - big turn off

  • Hi Eagle,
Sorry to fly in the face of your comments as neither of the two ladies serving were seen with a cigarette all night except at the bar area and we were there for four hours. Three on our table smoked and the ashtrays were changed after each cigarette.
Totally agree about the food it was absolutely brilliant and well presented.
Also it is one of the very few places where smokers can indulge in a cigarette between courses. I do not smoke myself however I am not a killjoy.

  • Eagle, why do you don't go to live in an hospital?
It will be better for your health than going to restaurants. 8)

  • we were a bit surprised to see the 2 ladies smoking at the bar in between serving the food too!!

it didnt concern us, but, i can see a lot of people finding it odd!!

food was great, but, we were the only party in so we soon left.

it is very blue in there.... not sure about the colour, may go back :-\\

  • It is so strange that Edward Bear and Bambi know the exact movements of staff, every time is there is a comment about this restaurant, I think it is pretty obvious by now that they represent the restaurant just read the history on the posts 'a new star is born'
Why can't you just accept that there will be comments, especially if service or food is poor and especially if staff smell of smoke, which is a huge turn off to a non smoking diner! ::) ::) ::)

  • Hello Bruno.

Everyone is entitled to offer comments based on their experience and obviously Edwardquote s experience is very favourable. Edward enjoys food and based on his many previous posts about restaurants, in my opinion, he is an excellent judge.

You appear to have taken a dislike to this establishment without offering us a review of your own based on your personal experience. How many times have you eaten there, what did you eat and what was the food and the service like?

Iquote d just like a balanced view and would like to hear your comments.

  • Thank you Falstaff for your well received comments.
It is a great pity that we are subjected to drivel from the likes of Bruno. I would not disagree that it is not very pleasant to see the owners smoking , however that is a benefit to some people who like to smoke whilst having a meal. I would repeat that the level of smoke was not a problem to myself, a non smoker, and the quality of the food was superb and most enjoyable.

  • Thanks for the advice Bambi - so now its passive smoking or MRSA and C diff.!!!
Actually we did like the place but are very smoke sensitive. These days there are few quality serious restaurants that would even contemplate smoking indoors. Even if the staff are dedicated to the weed.
We are waiting for the summer and outside dining - ok you are going to say there is a strong chance of diesel fumes on the road or dust from the building site ::) :o ;)
    Maybe see how it goes.

  • I have eaten in all 3 'French restaurants', including the one called Sebastiens over near Abama, all 3 have had staff smoking in view of customers, which I find a real turn off, it is disgusting to see.
In Maxims I had the most amazing meal ever when the first proper Fench chef was there, and saw no smoking, however, the next time I went I saw all the staff sat outside smoking, including the new chef, who looked so scruffy and the waiter that hadn't shaved for a week, all puffing away, I decided not to stay, and the reports of the awful food served there now by an inexperienced Belgian diver come cleaner, it was a relief I did not stay.
As for Nova, I had to wait so long for the food, and the very 'blue' decor was a turn off, as was the staff smoke, the food was good when it did arrive (1 hour wait) but not special.
Does anyone know where the chef from Maxims has gone to?

  • Bruno,
I have been to Maxims recently, and found the food to be excellent and the service seconed to none, you must have caught them on an off night!!As for the,(in your opinion) 'b4inexpierenced Belgian diver come cleaner'a8,for your info,he is both a very expierenced diver and chef, and has the qualifications to prove it,(don't know about his cleaning qualifications though :-\\) Give them a break Bruno, they have only just started out on their venture, post your comments after you give them another go.

  • Not on your nelly, the menu is overpriced and no where near the standard it used to be under the previous chef, it is not a new venture for the diver cum chef, he is employed and I now understand that the owners are the same as that dreadful archs, where the owner is drunk every night and lurches at young girls, he makes a fool of himself, I know where I like to eat amnd it certainly will not be at Maxims.
