  • hi
just got back and hear are my recomendations.

Via Brazil.  This is a bar/restaurant on the front in Playa arena.  They are a really nice couple and do great good.  It doesnt look much from the outside but do give it a try, they do these lovely potoato things instead of chips, great for Pizzas, steaks, pasta.. everything really.

El Timon, great restaurant in Puerto santiago, my only complaint is that they put too much salt on everything.  great views though over the bay.

Amazon bar.  This is a new bar up on the road between playa arena an PS.  It is above the supermecardos on the hill.  They must have spent a fortune on the furnishings, really nice sofas etc.  They also have a telescope that you can look through.

thats my opinions for this visit.

  • Hello everybody

just got back ourselves met a few board members, lucky sods are still there. I have to admit the village is very quite with the exception of Domingo's packed every night the holel entertainment must have been crap. Even T J's was only half full. went down the marina to harbour lites one evening when walking back all bars down there were deserted, there is more life in a tramps vest. the bamboo was quite busy still no live music except from the hypocrite German git upstairs, we though he had a rock band in I am pleased to report to you Linda that the zig zag path is fixed, Not sure if this is a good thing or not but you do hear a lot more European accents when your out and about. And unfortanly a lot of dog s--t on the paths  roll on february can't wait to get back and party in the square.
EVERYDAY WHEN I WAKE UP, I THANK THE LORD I'M WELSH

  • Hi Maps - it was good to see you again - sorry we didn't get to say goodbye before you left - we must have been in the Bamboo Bar at different times on your last night ... but we're home now too. Won't see you in Feb - not trying to avoid you but as I think we told you, we're out again in January for a few days and then March ... have a good Christmas!

  • I have also just got back and do try and find somewhere different to try each time, I thought all 3 resorts were very busy (much busier than May and last Sept), here are my findings, for brekkie Ocean Drive, Cafe Arena, Pilgrims and Bar Sangria, ones to avoid (in my opinion !!) Scoobys and Francys Bar.

For daytime snacks El Timon, Barcelo Hotel, Oasis, and Jessies by the beach in Los Gigs, La Plaza in Arena, we tried Via Brazil and it was the worst snack of the hols, an earlier thread recommended this but we thought it was awful even though the staff were lovely the food was not. Also the two Canarian places on Spanish Corner, whose names escape me at the mo - lovely setting and nice food.

For evening we had good meals in all of the following, El Pescador in Los Gigs, Juan Llanas in Playa Arena, Barco de Nino in Santiago (beside Barcelo Hotel), Fishermans Inn in Santiago, the Wine Bar in Los Gigs, Little Italy (for pizzas)  El Meson and finally Harbour Lites on the Marina. The ones I didn't enjoy were 1976 Bar n Grill and  Juan Carlos was just mediocre despite all of the hype (sorry all fans).

I feel the problem with a lot of the eateries is that they are not consistent, they can change from month to month. I have been visiting for donkeys years and the one that is always consistent for me (even though it may not be the best food) is Pescador in Los Gigs. This time around my fave was Juan LLanas in Arena and Barco De Nino.

I'm now on my 170th diet of the year !!

  • Been home a week and missing the place already!  As usual we had plenty of good fun and great food down at Harbour Lites....Steve is a fantastic cook and Gail and Jason work and laugh hard out front.  Not to mention the Margarita's ;)
We had an excellent meal at El Barco de Nino down in Puerto Santiago.  Lovely terrace views and the service was spot on.  We're not really fish eaters but that didn't matter as the menu is extensive and we enjoyed our whole meal.  A little bit more expensive but definitely worth it.  El Timon was very good too but not quite up to it's neighbour in style though very friendly.  A little more light needed on the terrace for old eyes though!

Bar Sangria was closed in the evenings which was a shame as he does good coffee and liqueurs, we went to Luis' Bar instead and popped into Sangria during the day.  Some restaurants got more than one visit but we used El Pescador, El Meson and Mistenguette too and, as usual, were not disappointed.  In fact we didn't have one bad meal in the whole 10 days....one of the reason's we keep on coming back!
