  • Re Linda's comment about Freds chicken I totally agree. There is only one place for fish and chips and that is Yorkshire, with the chips cooked in dripping. That coming from a Lancastrian is saying something. Best fish and chips I have had in Tenerife was at Chrisses bar in San Juan

  • Hi RoyL

Yes copped again. " Howton "is the place I stay  altho' the story of the cow might be to much for the L.G stomachs. I think the best thing El Meson could do would be to employ someone from Yorkshire to be the friers and then you would see a real expansion in profits. The business of re-heating fish and pre cooking chips for re-heating is wrong but this is what clearly happened in my visits to Fryers. Whatever they do they should avoid friers from " souf ov Watford" who think chips should be eaten off plates.

  • shame on you cowyed, Friars has never been known to reheat their fish and chips as a good yorkshire lass ought to know you can't reheat battered items, except for Aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puds of course. Oh by the way there is a  Yorkshire person employed there too.

  • Can't say I like a lot of sauce on my fish Linda but must say I enjoy the sardines here in Tenerife, bit bigger then them in the tins back home. Lovely done on the barbie, very nice place on the water front in San Marcos where I had some lovely fresh ones. Was taught how to eat them properly so I didn't end up with a mouthful of little  bones, lovely.

  • Get real guys.  Domingo is very good at runnig El Meson and makes a lot of money doing so but he sure doesn't have a clue about running a fish and chip restaurant.  I live here but think I'll wait for decent fish and chips whenever I go back to Yorkshire. 8) 8) 8)

  • Had a meal a few days ago.
Seemed perfectly ok to me,but then again my standards are way below that of the average person.

  • It seems to me as if there are a few of "YOU"  that read these chat pages forgive poor standards and  the quality of food over the fact that these so called restauraunters are from good old "BLIGHTY" and continue to go back even after having a duff meal or Three??????? IF ITS CRAP DONT GO BACK!!!!

  • Have not had a duff meal from fryers.
Tried it once no complaints so I will go back.end of story.
If it had been a bad meal then I wouldn't go back.
No story here black & white as far as i'm concerned.

  • Just returned from LG, didn't try Friars but did go to El Meson. What they have done is knocked a huge window in the wall between the 2 restaurants. So sitting in one, you can see what goes on in the other!

Not sure if that will work though.

Friars was quiet early evening, but filled up later on .. people seemed to be enjoying their food (and not just Brits)

    there we are then

Its a shame they have knocked through between el meson and Fryers, personally i think they have spoilt el meson

  • Couldn't smell any old oil from Friars while in El Meson, just the Chateaubriand we had! With the wall missing it does lose some of the atmosphere it had but it won't stop us from going there. Normally prefer a terrace seat anyway!
