I have had the most uncomfortable night, mostly on the toilet where the menu from this place belongs, I should of known better than to there, I have really paid for it! The staff were rude when I complained and the old lady who runs it would not admit the food was bad with a capital B, the smell from the sewers and the sight of old drainpipes outside also added to the whole ghastly evening, has anyone else eaten there, or are you too wise? I feel like I know everyone as I read this site often, it is like a soap opera, I am always waiting for the next episode, but have never felt I had strong enough reasons to contribute before, but now I've joined I hope that there will be pleasant experinces to report in the future.

  • It is always difficult if not impossible without scientific analysis to locate the source of food poisoning as the ill effects may take a day or so to emerge.

My wife once had a severe attack in Los Gigantes and we had to call the doctor out but we never discovered the source, which more than likely was not her last meal.

Mitch - I have seen their food, only had a drink there but the food looked disgusting, not surprised there is a reason for complaint, I made a note never to eat there. I do know the owners, they have no catering experience and do not have a clue, the old lady owner you refer to is Judy or affectionately called Batty amoungst her friends, you will see Tom her other half drinking all the profit away on the terrace! ;)
Their other restaurant Maxims closed after 6 weeks as they upset the chef so much!!! ::) ::)

  • Have not eaten there myself but I was led to belive that the chef Eric has worked in a lot of first class restaurants in his time.
Come on folks lets face it this is pub grub no more no less, not much different than when Barbara & Gary had it.

In what way were the staff rude to you Mitch?
I know Fay that works there & she's an ok girl so it would surprise me if it was her.

  • We have eaten at Archs on numerous occasions and found the food excellent, also the service and staff are very pleasant.  Eric is still the chef.  Archs is below La Boguita near Yates Wine Bar.

  • Just returned and we ate in Archs -  probably won't go back, place was heaving though - all meals 10 euros - it certainly wasn't the worst meal we've had - I would say it was average and I did the think the staff were very friendly - no complaints there. The veg was nicely cooked but my chicken rossini was very average. Has Maxims just closed in the last few days as it was open last week??

  • We also ate there at New Year time - we went to the Carvery night which I have to say was very nice. I thought the place was decorated very nicely and the staff were also friendly. We sat outside as the tables inside were all booked and I can't say I really noticed any obvious drainpipes etc - Mustve been facing the right way!

  • Mitch, I hope you are feeling better, I personally would never eat at Archs, at least 5 microwaves in the kitchen. I read an article on the detrimental health effects of microwaves, and now I do not own one, I avoid this type of pre-cooked, re-heated in a microwave muck at all costs. Just look at their menu - old fashioned food, so old it was designed for the aga in a country cottage, not to be cremated in a series of high tech machines where you know when it is done when you hear the 'ding'.

  • Well said Sebastian. Larsson would probably endorce Sweeney Todd's Pies !!!!  I have not eaten in Arches, but have heard more negative reports than possitive ones. If you order a meal there and it looks poor, just get up and walk out. If people start doing that, then they will get the message that the quality needs improving ! Have eaten in Yates a couple of times, during the evening, and had no problems there. ::)

  • Yates don't do food.
Are you talking about next door.Bodeguita?

Thanks to Lady for your concern, I am fine now, although any mention of the food there makes me nauseous again!
I do not agree with Larsson that it is 'wholesome pup grub' I agree with all the other comments that it is as wholesome as reheated trash can be - wholesome it just ain't, especially when it makes you sick and then the owners of the establishment could not give a damn, I'm not sure what is worse -  poo on a plate or owners arguing that thier chef is good -  who the chef I have just learnt is called shrek - and proud of it ::) and apparantly has a tatoo of shrek on his body as he is proud that he resembles the ogre ??? ???    ;D ;D
    Says it all!!
Judge John Deed rules- get up and walk out - wish I did.

  • Mitch, Eric is actually a really nice guy so I don't think a personal onslaught on a guy you have never met is justified.
It wasn't him who was rude to you in the first place.
Ok the food as you put it was crap but there's no need to get on to a personal level.
he probably didn't even know what the hell was going on.
Put more of your efforts into the person/s who were rude to you.

  • Having spent my 7th year in Los gigantes over the christmas and new year period Archs have had a total revamp. My parents went down there and had a lovely meal. We first went down there a couple of days later at 8pm for us to be told that there was no room (although there were plenty of seats inside and out going spare) so my sister and I decided to go down there for a meal out a few days later. We got there about half seven and were told they had run out of food!  So we then booked up for the carvery on the sunday and booked in for 8pm.  We got there about quarter to 8, sat down and was told they had no beef left  but they had "saved" us some potatoes!  our friends (a party of  was already in there as they had got down there for 7pm. We ended up walking out. Later we saw our friends and they said they had run out of beef also by the time they got there. Even though there was turkey (which I hate) and pork (due to an op i can't eat this), so it wasn't very good for me. They obviously have not got their act together at all. How can you run out of food at that time? I have since heard quite a few poor reports on the place. Well, I tried 3 times and I certainly won't be trying it again.

Sorry I did not mean to say anything personal about shrek, just that it was his food that I did not like. And I think from comments that others agree.
