  • As it seems nobody has posted anything about entertainment as yet I thought I would just post what I enjoy.
Route 66. Jill and Bob of "Old Dogs New Tricks" have always provided brilliant entertainment, as has their young Canarian protege Jose (Hose?). First saw Jill and Bob down at TJ's who have always had the best artists available on the Island, Gavin Nicholas, Bitter and Twisted to name but two. Not forgetting Baz Knight and last but not least at the bar next door, Carlos! We have had some really fun nights in the old original Highland Paddy ( the new one has never captured the atmosphere of the old one). The Bamboo is of course a must. Very occasionally there is something a bit special in the Los Gigantes Hotel.
The Courtyard used to be good, with Billy Mac and various others but has always been closed the last few times I have been. You may have noticed that I like live entertainment the best, and thats what I seek out when on holiday.

  •  ??? LOL! I would not normally reply to my own post, but something just happened when I mentioned a particular bar by name in the previous post it was automatically converted to the establishment doesnt want to be mentioned! So how about... The High place where either Irish men abound or they grow rice in wet fields?

  • Whatever happened to the duo Scenario? used to enjoy listening them in the Blarney Stone. In my opinion one of the best musical acts I've seen in the Los Gig/Playa de la Arena area.

  • Just back from our 4th visit in 2 years.
Can't agree on comments posted about "Old Dogs New Tricks" and brilliant entertainment - should rename themselves "Old Dogs, Same Old Tricks" with Bob's patter getting very tired and past it, reverting to blue inuendo - not professional and certainly not good entertainment. Just as well Jill wears the trousers!

  • I have only seen Old Dogs New Tricks once a couple of years or so back whilst at Las Rosas. I was suitably impressed at the time and thought Jill was a husky voiced rock chick.
Any act seen again and again becomes less entertaining but we've covered that subject on the message board too in years gone by !

  • Ooops! Nearly missed this one. As I live and work in UK, it would be very difficult for me to be one of the acts I mentioned. Unfortunately I am not an entertainer and have no connection with any of the performers mentioned. What do you mean by "try another Island " and "get a life?". My present holiday arrangements are perfectly satisfactory, and my life is just fine the way it is. As you are the one doing all of the moaning and complaining, perhaps it is your life that is not according to your expectations, Sebastian/Rudy or whatever you are calling yourself today.

  • RUDY IS NOT ME ONCE AGAIN YOU AND FALSESTUFF HAVE IT WRONG. IF YOU ARE NOT AN ENTERTAINER YOU SHOULD BE I LIKE YOUR INPUT AS YOU TENDED TO AGREE WITH MOST OF WHAT I STARTED WITH THE FOOD STANDARDS ON A SPANISH YES SPANISH ISLAND AND NOT LOS GIGANTSHIRE ALTHOUGH MOST OF YOU EXPATS SHOULD APPLY FOR THAT SAD NEW PROGRAMME.

  • Sebastian, It just seemed a little coincidental that you apealed for comments from "Rudy" and aforementioned miraculously appeared. It is therefore entirely understandable that Falstaff and I jumped to the same conclusion. For the comment that I should be an entertainer....thank you from the bottom of my...bottom.
You seem to think that my input is ok as long as I agree with you. I must point out that I only agree or support comment that I feel is right and just, although I am always prepared to listen to the other guys point of view. What I do detest is aggressive personal attacks on other posters just because they disagree with your opinions. (This does not apply solely to you). I feel that the point of these boards is to promote lively, informative debate and useful information.
    'nuff said.

  • What on earth has  being a "conservative MP " and European view as opposed to " blinkered brits" got to do with entertainment?

Music is universal and the only divisive element is the listeners personal view....nobody is right or wrong ...you either like the music or not!
To attack people in a personal manner when debating music is to not really understand what music is about....save it for the politics board...I can then ignore the comments as they deserve!!
By the way to save you wondering ,I am the bass player in a couple of acts and play with the gang at the Bamboo Bar when they have the Sunday afternoon sessions.....most people seem to enjoy it and I hope that if it's not really your "cup of tea",you will continue to let us have our occasional bash!
Enjoy your own taste in music and enjoy this lovely Island  MB.

  • Janey please dont put thoughts into other minds and relax chill and have a bit of fun. My points were valid and the fact of free press is to be able to state a point of view to allow others to reply and share their points.
With regard to spelling as explained earlier my fingers don't always hit the right keys and big words are not a problem with spellcheck are they dear????

I could not disagree more with the comment "Old Dogs Same Old Tricks" My wife and myself have been watching Old Dogs New Tricks since they arrived on the island four years ago. It would be difficult to find a more profesional hard working act on any of the Canary Islands. As for singing the same old songs. We see them on many ocasions over our six month stays and we find they have a new songs we have'nt heard before. This year is no eception with the release of there sixth CD. Thats nearly 100 songs.Every track is new to us.
With the turn round of tourists who return each year to see them, its only natural for them to request old songs that they have performd over the years. We are no eception.Always asking for two or three of there oldies.

  • Glad to hear you enjoyed them too. On my last visit a few weeks ago we were treated to the Kaiser Chiefs "I predict a Riot" and also some of their friends guested with a Snow Patrol number. I always make a point of finding out where they are on, holiday wouldnt be the same without them :)
