  • Does anyone know if El Guanche has closed?  What a disappointment if it has.

Well done GiGi, people like our earlier contributor just give the area a bad name, malicious gossip is something the site can do without ....then maybe his/her rumours can be substantiated, we'll wait and see

Well said that man. Businesses can close rapidly for a great number of reasons other than financial. Its best not to pass judgement when you do not know the circumstances. It is always very sad to hear news of a closure for whatever reason.  :(

  • I have just returned to Tenerife to live after being a regular visitor and have just discovered this great site.
Regarding El Guanche; I have met Dennis again who was the great Maitre D at El Guanche, he is now restaurant manager for Maxims the French restaurant, I was delighted to see him and delighted with the restaurant food, a nice change to eat good food at a reasonable price, (cheaper than El Guanche) and great to have my wine poured and 'swirled' as I think must be his trade mark!

I had the most wonderful evening in Maxims (used to be the Wayside Tavern) what a transformation, the decor is lovely so is the ambiance, an the court yard is lit up with candles.
The chef is French and came out to talk to us after the meal, the food was superb and it is so reasonable compared top other restaurants at this standard, I really recommend this, I am sure you will enjoy the food and ambiance, we really thought it was good
