You've hit the nail right on the head Linda. It's rumoured that some of those large locals down there are being charged up to '805000 per month rent, and the smaller ones '801000+. How many handbags and pairs of shoes do you have to sell to cover those sort of rents? No wonder many locals are empty.
And while I'm on my soap box, if landlords, accountants, lawyers and banks would all reduce their charges to sensible, acceptable amounts, people would stand some chance of making a go of it. It's sole destroying for many people to work really hard, pay rent, social security, staff, electric etc and end up with nothing for themselves at the end of the month. It's not suprising there are so many illegal workers on the Island, the legal ones don't stand a chance.
