A new star is born over Los Gigantes!

  • At last a really good restaurant has opened in Los Gigantes.  Nova Bleue (Blue Star) is located beneath Colonial Park, next to Il Covo or Mamma Luciaquote s as it is sometimes known.

This new establishment opened only a week ago serving French food accompanied by a very good wine list including some very good (Ribiero del Duero) Spanish Riojas.  The restaurant itself is very tastefully decorated, cutlery and table ware is very attractive and the inside is fully air conditioned, and they allow smoking both inside and on the terrace.
We went on Sunday and, accepting the fact that we were the only diners, the service was superb.  We chose the 7 course, yes 7course, set menu which included Pate de Foie Gras, Filets of trout with Almonds and an excellent Noisettes of Lamb in a truffle sauce.  Vegetables cooked to perfection and we chose a very reasonably priced Rioja which again was a cut above the average.

Give it a try, its very good, and therequote s not a chip in site.

  • I noticed that you mentioned this new restaurant allows smoking inside. What are the regulations in Tenerfie regarding smoking in restaurants?  I thought they were supposed to be non smoking. Is  smoking allowed in most restaurants? Are there any non smoking restaurants? I certainly hope so or I won't be eating out much when I visit in December.

Although I'm a resident, I don't think I'm qualified to give a definitive answer but as I understand it any restaurant/establishment with over 100 sq metres of floor space must provide a separate area for non smokers.  If the space is less than 100 sq metres then the choice as to wether it is smoking or non smoking is left with the owner.

If I'm wrong, no doubt GiGi our intrepid moderator will correct me.

Meanwhile, enjoy your stay, with or without restaurants

Mr GiGi and I ate there last night, absolutely superb!
We had the 7 course "Taster Menu" at 32 euros a head -  smaller portions of just about everthing on the menu, my personal favourites were the trout fillet with toasted almonds and the pate de foi gras served with caramelised onions and also the raisin bread from the never ending bread basket!

Delightful decor, "proper" table linen elegant cutlery and crockery and excellent friendly service, madame is only too happy to accommodate pauses between courses -  this is an eating experience that can take all night if you wish!.

There is good extraction and air con and we as non smokers did not find the smokers who were dining a problem, although there is also seating on the terrace

  • We ate there last night.  The staff were very friendly.  We both had fillet steak, which was excellent, only thing we found was the vegetables were very sparse which was a shame.

  • Prompted by Janeyquote s  question about the location of Colonial Park,  I usually refer to the excellent map with grid references shown on the West Coast Properties website, accessed through the link on the home page of Losgigantes.com.  For some reason though the map key is no longer shown. Here it is if anyone is interested.

Hope Iquote m not in trouble for this endash  Iquote m sitting on the naughty step just in case.

  • What an absolute disaster that they allow smoking inside - I am very tempted but just can't stand the thought now I've got used to the non-smoking in most places.

  • Dear Hibisco lass,
Overcome this by accepting the fact that the law in Spain has made an error by not banning smoking completely due the fact that an awful lot more people smoke in Spain than the UK. Cant upset the locals now can you???

  • I am going to give this restaurant a try, but I am confused over the name, it has been mentioned that the name translates as new star!!!! Nova blueu to me translates in French as new blue, can anyone explain what language it is in?
I can't beleive that we are lucky to have 3 French restaurants now, Maxims is excellent and I have heard that Damien has opened Chez Damien near San Juan, looking forward to the Christmas and New Year menus.

  • I think your french is not very good. Nova is an international word;
"Nova (pl. novae) is a cataclysmic nuclear explosion caused by the accretion of hydrogen onto the surface of a white dwarf star."

  • Chez Damian is inside the Marazul building. They change the adress two weeks ago. Nova Bleue is open in the end of september. Maxim is 3 weeks old.
Are you disturb by 5 chineses restaurants, 5 italians, or +/- 30 spanish restaurants in the city? I think that we don't have inaf of good restaurants in LG.

  • konoi, I don't think that your french is very good, I am french Canadian and i do not understand your translation, and I am not a scientist, but it will explain the "crack" nova has on the advertising! I had to look twice to work out what the crack was all about. I hope the food is simpler. ::) ::)

  • Bonjour Tico

  • Havn't tried the restaurant, but noticed the old building next door now has a huge crane installed. Can't be good news for them as it did put me off going there.

Trying to run a restaurant next to a building site is going to be hard work I think, but I wish them luck!
