Programme of Events 2006
Monday 13 March: from 20.30 hours The burial of the Sardine. Starting from the top of Los Gigantes and winding down through the village accompanied by the wailing "widows" and the Fanfarria and Santa Catalina marching bands and ending up up behind the Hotel Los Gigantes by the Police Station where the effigy of the Sardine will be burnt followed by a magnificent firework display and an grand open air dance to the sounds of the Arguyo band into the early hours

Thursday 9th March: from 21.00 hours The opening of the grand gala election of the Carnival Queens

Tonights hopefuls are María Marlene González Delgado,17 years old with a costume designed by Sole representing the Centro Infantil Dumbo and Grupo Sole; Amber Byrne, 16 years old, with a costume designed by William Luis representing Villasur Estate Agents and Dentist Paul Byrne-Price; Nancy Martín Jiménez, 17 Years old with a costume designed by Fran García and representing Perfumería Safari and Sara Afonso García, with a costume designed by Miguel Ángel Abad.

During the Gala there will performances by "Los Tabajaras", la Escuela de Baile Onelia Hernández, la agrupación Sabor Isleño, and a star performance by the winning Murga group of Santa Cruz Carnaval- Los Triqui-Traques and much more.

Friday 10th March: from 17.00 hours Gala Election of the Los Gigantes Junior Carnival Queen 2006 including a Circus show, disney characters and surprises.

from 23.00 hours open air dance to the sounds of the Fortaleza band

Saturday 11th March: from 16.30 hours Mini Carnival Parade starting at Apartamentos Sombrero and Children's festival in the Plaza Bouganville

from 23.00 hours open air Fancy Dress Ball to the sounds of the Arguyo Band and Sabrosa de Buenavista

Sunday 12th March:

from 12.00 Exhibition of antique cars

from 17.00 hours Grand Carnival Parade leaving from the post office in Puerto de Santiago and ending up in the Bouganville Plaza in Los Gigantes where there will be performances from various song and dance troupes on stage

 

When is Los Gigantes Carnival
Carnival Dates are not normally confirmed until late November or December of the preceding year, but a good indication can always be made by determining when Ash Wednesday falls - the Carnival normally starts towards the end of the week after, the week after the famous Santa Cruz Carnival is held. Check back here for confirmation when it is received from the town hall and for links to the programme of events and photo album nearer Carnival Time each year.
